KONGSBERG CUSTOMER TRAINING
Our training centre in Aberdeen supports customers of Kongsberg systems, by offering a portfolio of courses in
specialist areas including dynamic positioning, acoustic positioning and marine automation. We offer both standard
and tailormade courses that teach the use and maintenance of our products.
We aim to deliver practical, interactive and results oriented training to ensure that the knowledge gained is
immediately applicable in the work situation.

These can either be designed from scratch or be one of our
existing courses delivered to your team at your own premises.
DP COURSES
DP Basic Operator Course
Fulfills the requirements for certification according to the ‘Induction’ training required by the Nautical Institute.

DP Advanced/Simulator Operator Course (K-Pos)
Fulfills the requirements for certification according to the ‘Simulator’ training required by the Nautical Institute.
Training will be conducted on our NEW Kongsberg full bridge simulator with 260° display.

NEW DP Introduction Course
By the end of the course participants will be able to understand how a DP system works, its uses and functions.
They will also understand the requirements for DP vessels and IMCA guidance relating to the use of DP systems
offshore.

DP Familiarisation Course - General or Vessel Specific
This course is targeted at trained DP operators who need familarisation with the Kongsberg K-Pos DP system. After
the course the successfull participant will be able to operate the K-Pos DP system.

SDP Maintenance Course
This course will provide the participant with the ability to identify and exchange faulty units with spares from stock
on-board to bring the SDP system back into operation, perform correct periodic maintenance and communicate with
Kongsberg Maritime service personnel when assistance is needed.

K-Pos Maintenance Course
How to service the K-Pos system. This course introduces the participant to the controller hardware and the human
machine interface (HMI). Covers how the sensors, position and reference systems, propulsion and power controls
are interfaced to the DP system.

cPos Operator Course
This course introduces the participant to the cPos technology, trains them on the cPos human machine interface
and gives a basic understanding of dynamic positioning.

cPos Maintenance Course
How to service the cPos DP system. Introduces the participant to the controller hardware and the
human machine interface (HMI). Covers how the sensors, position and reference systems, propulsion
and power controls are interfaced to the DP system.

K-Sim
This state-of-the-art training simulator is designed to replicate the
bridge of a ship with a Class 3 Dynamic Positioning System. Large
computer screens project 3D imagery of the marine environment and
consist of production platforms, support vessels and buoys to create
realistic oil fields.
AUTOMATION COURSES
K-Chief 500 Technical Course
After the course, the successful participants will be able to explain the basic principles of the automation system;
hardware design and location of hardware components. They will also be able to perform fault-finding and
maintenance.

After the course the successful participant will be able to explain the basic system design of the K-Chief 600 system
and operate the K-Chief 600 system.

After the course the successful participant is able to understand, maintenance and perform fault seeking on the
K-Chief 600 system.

NEW - K-Chief for Bridge Personnel
After the course, successful participants will be able to explain the basic principles and operate the K-Chief 700
system. This course is aimed at aimed at personnel who operate the automation and safety system.

K-Chief 700 - Step 1 (System Introduction)
Provides participants with a basic understanding of the K-Chief 700/SVC-400 or K-Chief 500/600 systems. Aimed at
those who will be operating and/or maintaining the automation system.

K-Chief 700 Maintenance - Step 2 (SPBus or RBus)
Provides participants with a basic understanding of the K-Chief 700 system. Aimed at electronic technicians,
electricians and other maintenance personnel onboard.

NEW - K-Safe Maintenance
Provide participants with a basic understanding of the K-Safe system. The participants will be able to operate
Autronica Fire Central, and use it as a tool to troubleshoot the fire loops and detectors. The participants will have
the knowledge and the hands-on practice on detectors testing.

Kongsberg Networks add on Course (K-Chief Maintenance)
This Networks course gives an in-depth understanding of the Kongsberg networks used with the K-Pos, K-Chief and
K-Thrust Systems.

POSITION AND REFERENCE SYSTEMS COURSES
HiPAP Operator Course
Teaches the SSBL positioning principles and the use of HiPAP hydro-acoustic positioning system when interfaced to
Kongsberg DP systems. Also covers how to maximise hardware performance using the APOS operating software.

HiPAP LBL Operator Course (SSBL and LBL)
Covers basic SSBL and LBL positioning principles and how to maximise system performance using APOS operating
software.
3.5 day course | 9 delegates (max) per course | £1650 + VAT per delegate
HiPAP Technical Course
Covers basic acoustic positioning principles, system calibration, basic fault finding and maintenance of the HiPAP
hardware and associated transponders.

HAIN Reference Operator Course
Teaches general knowledge of inertial navigation and benefits of using Hydro-Acoustic Aided Inertial Navigation
(HAIN) system. Covers setting up and operation of HAIN and ability to identify and handle errors. Can be taught in
conjunction with HiPAP courses.

Seatex DPS Operator & Technical Course
After the course the successful participant is able to: give an in-depth functional explanation of the DPS system and its
display windows; explain the fundamentals of GPS and GLONASS and the use of differential techniques to improve
absolute position accuracy; and perform general system maintenance.

This course is aimed at electricians, technical personnel and others who need to know how to change, interface and
replace MRUs.

Aimed at Offshore Surveyors and Engineers, this course will cover: APOS Operation and interfacing; SSBL and LBL
