The Baptism of the Lord
January 11, 2015
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year with family and friends. I
personally had a very enjoyable time Celebrating Christmas Masses with all of our families and spending a lot
of quality time with my own family.
It has been several months since I have written a Pastor’s Pen, so I will once more go over the status of
different projects around the parish. As you know, we had some significant delays on the LED sign that will
be in front of the church and rectory. I do want to thank all those who volunteered their time to make the sign
happen, especially Wendy and Preston Haglin, Wayne Throm, and Brian Ott. I would also like to thank
Ameren UE for helping us get more electricity to our campus and showing us what we need in that sign area.
Because of the delay in the sign, Excel Sign is reducing the price of the sign by $2,000. I would like to thank
everyone who donated money to make this happened. I was hoping to get this sign up and running by
Thanksgiving, but like most things in life, things never happen as fast as you want. Hopefully, the sign will be
installed by late January or the first week of February.
This past week, I signed a contract with Kozeny-Wagner Construction to begin ordering material in order
to replace the side entrance of the Church and make it handicap accessible. With all of the functions going on
in the church, the timing of this project is going to be tricky. Hopefully, we will get started shortly after Easter
and weather permitting the project is scheduled to be a 45 day project. As soon as that project is completed
we will take bids on tearing out and replacing all of the concrete in the front of the church, minus the handicap
ramp and the damaged asphalt. I plan on having more green space in the front of the church. As always, I
have the Maintenance committee and the Archdiocese helping me through all of these many details.
I am tired of looking at all of the “chip” paint and holes in the plaster walls of the church and very soon I
will be putting out bids to get the walls repaired. I was waiting until we made sure that the building was
sealed from any water damage from the outside before making a move on the inside walls. However, I cannot
wait any longer. This past week I contact the Archdiocese for Plaster company references and I will move on
this project very soon.
Finally, I hope all those who sit towards the front of the church are enjoying the new kneelers.
Fr. Huber
Resolutions for Stewards
Baptism of the Lord
“After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop
down and untie.” – Mark 1:7
We are put on this earth to love God, love our neighbor and make disciples. How many times does our own
pride and ego get in the way on fulfilling God’s plan for us? Humbling ourselves before God and putting
Him first in all things should be our top priority.

The I.C. Pro-Life Committee is very grateful to our parish
for all the support you provided for our projects throughout
last year. Thank you for your prayers for a culture of life,
your gifts of time, talents and treasure which helped to make
this year very successful for pro-life causes. Also, many
politicians who had supported pro-abortion legislation were
defeated and/or replaced by pro-life candidates in the last
election. Now, important pro-life majorities exist in the
House and Senate at both the state and the federal levels of
government. Legislation affecting abortion and religious
freedoms are already being prepared in Jeff. City and Wash.,
D.C. Please continue your efforts. All our legislators,
especially those newly elected, are under constant intense
pressure from the abortion industry and others. There’s
never been a better time to participate in the pro-life
movement. In the 42 years since the U.S. Supreme Court’s
Roe v. Wade decision legalized abortion, diligent, persistent
and creative pro-life strategies, projects and campaigns have
grown and improved and become very effective. The
enormous numbers of people who travel to Washington,
D.C. for the Annual March for Life sends a powerful prolife message to politicians at every level of govt across this
nation and to citizens here and around the world. And the
enthusiastic demonstration for the sanctity of Life by a
growing number of young people in the “March” (like our
Holy Child School students) is a devastating defeat for
Planned Parenthood, NARAL and the abortion crowd. 38
Youth Ministry buses leave StL Jan.21st. Please be generous
in your support of our students’ efforts at the “March”. Your
signed “Roses for Life”, delivered by your Knights of
Columbus to your lawmakers is a very effective message.

and for the millions of babies, moms, families who have
been impacted by the unjust Roe v. Wade decision. Annual
