CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL BASS CLASSIC RULES: 1) PARTICIPANT & ELIGIBILITY: This is a “pick your partner” tournament, open to all persons. A team will consist of two people, provided that one person operating the combustion engine is 18 years old or older. An adult choosing a minor as a partner will take full responsibility for that minor. Both members must have a valid fishing license. 2) REGISTRATION: Each person on the team must fill out and sign the entry form. Signing the entry form will signify that each member of the team understands and will follow the rules as written. Boat numbers will be assigned as entries are received. Any questions about the rules please contact the Tournament Director. 3) APPLICATIONS: Applications will be accepted by mail at: Children’s Hospital Bass Classic, P.O. Box 1007, Prairieville, La 70769. Applications presented in person can only be accepted the evening of the pre-tournament meeting, February 27, 2014, 6:30 p.m. at CABELA’S in Gonzales and at DOIRON’S LANDING, Hwy 70, Stephensville the morning of the Bass Classic, March 1, 2014. Mailed applications must be postmarked by 6 p.m., February 25, 2014 and mailed to the address listed above. You can pick up applications at Cabela’s in Gonzales and Doiron’s Landing in Stephensville. Boat numbers will be assigned as entries are received. Check the web site for assignments. WWW.CHILDRENSHOSPITALBASSCLASSIC.COM. 4) SAFETY: Safe boating conduct and all safety precautions must be observed at all times. Unsafe operation of a boat disqualifies the team. All boats must be equipped with USCG approved life jackets, which must be secured when combustible engine is running. In the case of an emergency and late check in would be evident, one or both anglers must take their catch & get into another tournament boat for check in. All boats must be equipped with approved running lights & working kill switch. 5) SPORTSMANSHIP: All competitors are expected to show courtesy to other competitors & non-competitors alike. No Alcoholic Beverages or Illegal Drugs will be allowed in boats during tournament hours. Intoxication will not be tolerated. Any contestant who displays poor sportsmanship, violates these rules or violates the Fish & Game laws of the state of Louisiana will be disqualified. 6) PROTEST: Complaints or protests must be submitted in writing to the Tournament Director within 15 minutes after scales closed. Tournament Director must be informed of such action prior to or during weigh-in. 7) TACKLE: Only artificial lures can be used; no prepared or live bait, other than pork rind strips may be used. All bass must be caught live and in a conventional manner using a rod and reel. No trolling with the main engine will be permitted at anytime during tournament hours. A contestant may use only one rod at any one time. Other rods may be in the boat for substitute purposes. Maximum rod length shall be 8 feet. 8) BOAT EQUIPMENT: Safety equipment adequate to pass Coast Guard regulation must be in boat at all times. All boats must be equipped with functional kill switch and live well. Both the driver and the passenger who participate in a boat that is equipped with a motor that exceeds the BIA horsepower rating will accept full liability and responsibility for any and all personal injury or property damage that may occur. Carelessness or unsafe operation of any boat and motor shall not be tolerated and is grounds for disqualification. Each boat must have a functional aerator pump, and attempts must be made to keep the fish alive. No iced fish will be accepted. Boat length will be a minimum of 14 feet with water-cooled outboard. No jet skis. Gator Tails or Pro Drivers are allowed. 9) PRE-TOURNAMENT PRACTICE: There is no cut off period before the tournament. Anglers are not permitted to catch bass anytime before tournament and transport them to be released in another part of tournament waters, in the effort to establish a population of bass in a selected area. 10) PERMITTED FISHING WATER: No fishing permitted within Doirons Launch Canal or within 50 feet of another competitor’s boat which was first anchored or secured in a fixed position. CB radio, walkie-talkie (fixed or portable), or cell phones cannot be used between competitors during tournament hours to locate or acquire fish. No competitors shall have non-competitors scout an area or hold an area for them during tournament hours to obtain fish. Pullovers are not allowed. Tournament waters that are posted (off limits, no fishing, or no trespassing and private property) by the state or local authorities or any posted water where the public is not allowed is off limits to all competitors. Contestant may not travel an open marsh, which is private property, to gain access to a canal. Contestants may not fish through any opening that access the open marsh from a canal. Canals, pits or ponds with barricades or gates are off limits. If competitors are uncertain about the guidelines of this rule, they should contact the Tournament Director. Maps Will Be Available. 11) FISHING HOURS: Check in will start at 4:30 a.m. March 1, 2014. Boats will be released in number order beginning at safe daylight. Number of boats will determine flight positioning. There will be three flights. 1-75 flight 1; 76-150 flight 2; 150 and above flight 3. All boats must be checked by a tournament official prior to 7 a.m. for safety equipment, live bait, live wells, running lights, etc. The team will also inform the official which side they will fish so they may receive the proper ribbon before launching. The scales will open at 2:30 p.m. Flight 1 check in is 3 p.m. Flight 2, 3:15 p.m. flight 3, 3:30 p.m. Teams must check in by their designated time. No crossovers will be allowed. 12) PENALTIES: Any team who checks in late at the official checkpoint, will have 1 pound deducted from their total weight for every minute that they are late, up to 15 minutes. Any team checking in later than 15 minutes will be disqualified. A limit will consist of 5 bass per team, minimum length of 12 inches measured on Golden Rule. Any team weighing in fish shorter than 12 inches in length will be disqualified. Any team weighing in more than 5 bass will be disqualified. Only 5 bass will be allowed in a live well at any time. NO culling at the landing will be allowed. Anyone violating this rule will be disqualified. There will be four (4) ounces deducted per dead fish. If dead fish is the largest, dead fish penalty will apply to that fish. All State and Federal laws will be adhered to during tournament hours. 13) OFFICIAL BOATS: Officials will be on the waters during tournament hours and can approach or observe any contestant’s boat. Each contestant is requested to cooperate with all reasonable requests. 14) DAMAGE: CHBC will not be responsible for damage or injury which may occur before, during, or after the Tournament 15) LAUNCH FEES: All launch fees are included in the entry fee. 16) TIES: Largest bass weighed in shall decide a tie. Total weight will decide a tie for Big Bass. If Big Bass and total weight are tied, a coin flip will determine the placing. 17) RULE CHANGES: Rules will remain unchanged throughout the event. Tournament Director may acquire assistance of Tournament Officials. Tournament Director and officials have the right to accept or refuse any person’s entry fees if deemed detrimental to the Tournament. Tournament Director’s decision is final. Weigh Master may refuse to weigh in any fish. The Tournament Officials will resolve questions. This will be final. Polygraph tests will be given at random. TOURNAMENT EVENTS Tournament Fee: $250 (Launch is included) Pre-tournament meeting: February 27, 2014; Cabala’s in Gonzales; 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Boat numbers will be assigned as entries are received. Check website for assignments. Fishermen must inform tournament officials on the morning of the Tournament as to which side they will fish, East or West. No crossovers allowed. Launch behind Doiron’s store will close at noon. No one will be allowed to pick up their boats at that launch. Use launch behind car wash for pick up.
