Engaging Mothers for Child Development Mothers play significant role in child development and shaping the future of youngs. Right To Play believes in women participation and engaging them for community development. Five mothers clubs were formed in different communities of Peshawar. The purpose of formulating these mothers clubs was to take mothers on board to discuss issues related to their children and address the problems to resolve. In September 2014, a day long meeting was held at Mothers Club, Gulbahar, Peshawar. Over 30 mothers attended the meeting and participated in discussion regarding significance of program, issues and challenges related to their children’s learning and development. The innovative Mothers Club is gaining momentum as mothers from local community take keen interest in discussing their children’s social, cognitive, emotional and physical development. Mothers Club is not only a platform to address children’s issues but empowering community women indeed. Every year world community celebrates International Day of Peace on September 21. The theme of this year’s peace day was “Right of Peoples To Peace”. September 21, 2014 was anniversary of United Nations General Assembly Declara- tion on the Right of Peoples To Peace. Right To Play is promoting peace and development and mitigate conflicts through play, sport and games. Right To Play engaged more than 30,000 children and youth in peace celebrations in Karachi, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Khairpur, Umerkot, Sanghar, Ghotki, Islamabad, Mardan, Mansehra and Peshawar. Universal Children’s Day A reminder to do everything possible to ensure the well-being of Children The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is a binding for nations to take appropriate measures to ensure the protection of all rights of children without discrimination of any kind. Every year November 20th is marked as Universal Children’s Day and anniversary of CRC. The November 20th, 2014 was a 25th celebration of UNCRC. Right To Play Pakistan held several activities around the day and engaged hundreds of children in celebrations across Pakistan. Thematic tournaments, play days and different programs were organized in over 13 cities of Khyber Pakhtukhwa, Islamabad Capital Territory and Sindh to highlight the significance of Universal Children’s Day and UNCRC. Right To Play Pakistan closely collaborates with Mashal Model School, Islamabad by extending support for sport equipment and holding different activities. The Mashal Model School is providing education to children hailing from disadvantaged communities of Capital city. Asma Pathan, Head Coach of Right To Play, Khairpur Sindh was invited to attend Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) by United Nations Office on Sport for Development. The Youth Leadership Programme which held in Gwanju, South Korea provided Asma Pathan an opportunity to learn about other cultures and exposure to interact with young people from different countries. During the programme, Pathan learnt about leadership, child protection, team work, challenges faced by people with disabilities and how to overcome these, social issues and discrimination faced by youth infected with HIV/AIDS. “It gave me a chance to try new things and learn more about the world such as travelling internationally. Right To Play Celebrates International Literacy Day Education is a fundamental right for all the people in the country. It is a tool of personal empowerment and a means for social and human development. Educational opportunities depend on literacy. Literacy is at the heart of basic education for all of us, and essential for eradicating poverty, reducing child mortality, curbing population growth, achieving gender equality and ensuring sustainable development, peace and democracy. International Literacy Day was celebrated on 8th September by Right To Play with the collaboration of SAFWCO and district education department. Global Dignity Day Celebrated Across Sindh Right To Play celebrates international day to raise awareness on the value of human dignity Global Dignity Day is an international day celebrated across the globe to instill a positive and inclusive value in young people. This year Global Dignity Day was celebrated in 70 countries including Pakistan where Right To Play celebrated the day by engaging over 50,000 children in celebrations. A total of 1,944 children in three districts of Sindh, Umerkot, Khairpur and Mirpurkhas participated in Global Dignity Day celebrations in events spanning a week, from October 14 to October 20. Among the activities used to raise awareness about issues of self-esteem and dignity were story-telling sessions, role play, singing and acting performances, tableaus and discussions by Right To Play team on what dignity means.
