It does not seem that long ago that we all worried about our computers crashing on the eve of the millennium. On well, we made it through that and we will make it through this “winter thing” that happens every year about this time. (I’m kidding, its Winter!) January is my birth month and you would think I would like it but I don’t. This time of year is a busy time for Elks Lodges. In the month of February, we will have nominations for officers at the first meeting and elections at the second meeting. It is an exciting time for new folks to get involved with their lodge. To breathe new life into the governing of each individual lodge. March will be our installation of the newly elected officers and come April 1, the new lodge year begins . There, you see, we made it through winter! nearby, but are still members who care and share, that it makes it impossible to exclude you from the process as well. It is for this reason that my choice for Elk of the Month is “You”. All of you! We are at over 1000 members strong, and each and everyone of you count. So wherever this newsletter finds you, whatever your lot in life may be at this point, I say “Thank You”. You are all true and loyal members among us and now you are officially an Elk of the Month!! Keep in mind also; at the stroke of eleven, wherever you are, when that hour falls upon the dial of night, it is the Golden Hour of Recollection and you are remembered! Yes, each and every one of you. In closing, I would like to urge everyone to count their blessings from this past year. To keep a smile on their face and to be encouraged for the new upcoming year. I ask Gods Blessing on each and every one of you and Thank you all for giving me a great 2014!! See you around the Lodge, Jeffrey Secord Exalted Ruler Toms River Elks Lodge #1875 I usually reserve this for the end of my message but I am changing things up a bit. I have given a lot of thought to Januarys Elk of the Month. There are so many people to choose from, so many that work hard day after day and input so much creative juice to the process. But there are also so many of you that either can’t get here for one reason or another or don’t live U N I T Y VETERAN’S COMMITTEE Our Veterans Committee did an outstanding job bringing Holiday Cheer to our hospitalized Veterans, we visited 4 different facilities, Arbors Care Center (seen here) Holiday Care Center, Arista Care Center and Bey Lea Care Center. Pizza Parties, Bingo games and gifts distributed by Santa and Mrs Claus were handed out to over 65 Vets, some of the Vets can be seen wearing their gifts, Elks hats. Santa (Gene Iannotta, Mrs Claus (Pat Nelson) and the Christmas Elf, ( Marge Ianotta), did an outstanding job, and one resident was so thrilled to see Santa, that she hugged him under the Christmas Tree. As always, an outstanding job by our Veterans Committee, bringing joy to our hospitalized Vets, we will NEVER forget them and thank them for their service. Sue Gajewski Veterans Committee Chair. I assure you my parents will hear of this.” With that she sat down red-faced. Unperturbed, Mr. Jacobs called on Miss Jones and asked the same question. Miss Jones, with composure, replied, “The pupil of the eye, in dim light.” “Correct,” said Mr. Jacobs. “And now, Miss Arnold, I have three things to say to you. One, you have not studied your lesson. Two, you have a dirty mind. And three, you will someday be faced with a dreadful disappointment.” On Dec 13th, Bruce and his helpers prepared and served a delicious breakfast with all the fixings to over 200 children and adults. Josh was the best DJ who played numerous songs for the children to sing and dance to, and that they sure did. Roden was the greatest Santa as usual singing songs along with the children. Pug was a grand Mrs Santa Claus who read stories to the children sitting around on the floor, listening attentively. The children enjoyed themselves. Santa arrived and started handing out gifts as Dennis De Mey called out their names. Santa and Mrs Claus posed for photos with the children, while their parents took pictures. Thank you Special Childrens Committee headed by Kathy De May and Charlene Dolan who did a fantastic job organizing the affair. Thanks also to all the volunteers who helped behind the scene. Always love a woman for her personality. She has ten you can choose from. I hate girls that complain about being single every 3 minutes. 90% of my socks are single & you don’t see them crying about it. But there are also so many of you that either can’t get here for one reason or another or don’t live U N I T Y
