“Worthy of Worship”
Young
*Choral Call to Worship
Today is Evangelism Sunday at Bethel UMC, and we will look at two important
ways we can more confidently share God’s GRACE with others. WE are our
church’s best marketing tool, and it doesn’t cost us a dime to share the good news
about Jesus, or to invite someone to come and worship with us. It is OUR responsibility to be good ambassadors of our great church!
There will be a Called Church Council meeting today immediately following traditional worship in the Sanctuary to approve the 2015 Ministry Expense Budget.
We will also seek approval for Kate Brown to attend Lay Servant training for the
Columbia District.
Let's Go Ice Skating! All are invited to meet up at The Plex at Sandhills for the 24 pm Ice Skating Session this afternoon. Cost is $12.00 + any money for snacks
and drinks. Youth (6th-12th grades) meet at the church at 1:30 with your money. We will return by 4:45. If you have not RSVP’d yet, call Lucy or Michelle
ASAP so we have enough drivers!
No Youth Meeting Tonight. Due to the Ice Skating Outing this afternoon, we will
not meet on campus tonight. Next week, January 18th, Youth are asked to bring a
parent with them. We will be discussing Mission Trips (6-7:30 in the Youth
Zone).
Questions, contact Lucy at [email protected] or Michelle at
843.368.2817.
Volunteers Needed. Looking for a place to serve? We are currently seeking Safe
Sanctuary adults to serve in the following areas: 3-5 year old Sunday School
teacher (every 3rd week), Youth Sunday School teacher (every 4th week) and
Confirmation Mentors (dates to be announced). If you are interested in any of
these rewarding opportunities, please call the church office or send an email
to [email protected].
Short Term Study on Acts. Begins today during the Sunday School hour in the
New Life Sunday School room (Education Building, 2nd Floor, last room on
left). You are invited to attend all or any of the 13 sessions. For additional information, contact Kate at [email protected] or call the church office.
Keep It Shut! Join Bethel ladies (& many others) in an online study led by Karen
Ehman of Proverbs 31 Ministries Let’s face it. We’ve all had days when we want
to hide after saying something permanently painful, just because we were temporarily ticked off. What if we could somehow learn what to say, how to say it, and
when to say nothing at all? Sign up for this 6-week study before January 26th
at http://proverbs31.org/online-bible-studies. We want to be in prayer for each other here at Bethel during the study, so please email [email protected] if
you are participating!
BUMS January Outing to the new State Museum Planetarium will be Thursday,
January 22nd. Cost is $10.95 per person. Lunch @ Cowboy-Brazilian Steakhouse.
Reserve your place by calling Walter Speas at 736-3068 or completing a reservation form that may be found on the office hallway table no later than January 20th.
Spring Confirmation Class forming now. All youth 6th grade and up are invited
to participate in a series of studies (history of the church, meaning of sacraments,
etc.) preparing them for membership. All parents of youth are encouraged to attend
the Parent’s Meeting on Sunday, January 18th @ 6:00 pm in the Youth Zone for
more information.
*Opening Hymn #154 “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” CORONATION
*Call to Worship—Responsive
LEADER: Something awakened us this morning - perhaps day's dawning,
the smell of brewing coffee, the sound of the alarm on the shelf, or a news
paper thudding at the door.
PEOPLE: And now we gather with awakened spirits to worship with
others the Creator of this day.
LEADER: Something moved us this morning - we left behind a sufficiency
of sleep or a restless night, we engaged in feeding and dressing, we left our
homes for here.
PEOPLE: And now we gather in this place to worship the Christ who
moves among us and to follow the Spirit which leads us into deeds of
love.
ALL: May ours be a faith that is both awake and moving as we worship
our God.
*Affirmation of Faith #881—The Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by
the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was
crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended
into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from
thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy
Spirit, the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness
of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
* catholic (universal)
*Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the
beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.
Anthem
“I Sing th’ Almighty Power of God”
Lovelace
I sing th' Almighty power of God, that made the mountains rise;
That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at his command, and all the stars obey.
I sing the goodness of the Lord, that filled the earth with food;
He formed the creatures with his word, and then pronounced them good.
Lord how thy wonders are displayed where'er I turn my eye:
If I survey the ground I trod, or gaze upon the sky.
There's not a plant or flower below but makes Thy glories known;
And clouds arise, and tempests blow by order from thy throne;
While all that borrows life from thee is ever in thy care,
And everywhere that man can be, Thou, God, art present there.

FAMILY PROMISE OF THE
MIDLANDS Begins!!!!
It has been a little over 2 years since
we started this journey, and now we will begin our rotation of churches
hosting families. This week, January 11-18 it all begins at Bethel!
Please be in prayer for the families we will be hosting, as well as the many
volunteers who will be offering their time and talents in this much needed
Outreach Ministry. God has truly blessed us in making this ministry a reality! If you would like to volunteer please call Bonnie Speas at 212-8575 or
Sally Hafner at 261-0612 and we will be happy to find a place for you to
serve!
Special Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass
against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for
thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Prayer of Dedication—Responsive
Leader: God has been generous with us, providing everything we need
and more. Let us also be generous, giving cheerfully and with gratitude
our gifts of time, money and love.
People: Gracious God, all that we have is a gift from you. Guide us so
that we use our money and talents in your service and to your glory.
Amen.
