 9 January 2015 INTERNS WANTED Project on creating the UIS internal library of National School Census Questionnaires UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), Montreal, Canada Post title Statistical intern 3 Positions: 1) Excellent English and French (ability to translate from French into English) 2) Excellent English and Spanish (ability to translate from Spanish into English) 3) Excellent English and Arabic (ability to translate from Arabic into English) Project Assist in the creation of the UIS internal library of National School Census Questionnaires (NSCQ) Start Date and Duration Early February to end May 2015 (full‐time preferred) Background and tasks The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), within its strategy of improving the quality of education data collection methods and practices, is expanding its international data repository by creating an internal library of National School Census Questionnaires (NSCQs). In the framework of this work programme, the UIS is seeking three (3) interns to enhance the queriability of the library. Interns shall: ‐ Review the NSCQs and document their content (in English) by writing short comments where necessary to an internal template in MS Excel thus supporting quality assurance. ‐ Report and capture data (labels) and metadata collected in the NSCQs and translate as needed from French, Spanish or Arabic into English. The UIS will provide training/coaching on: - ISCED (International Standard Classification of Education) and UIS education survey instruments (Questionnaires and Instruction Manuals); - UIS Template for cataloguing NSCQs; and - Web research to locate NSCQs and other pertinent information available on National Ministries of Education web sites. Master’s degree (or equivalent) in statistics or a closely related numeric discipline (e.g. demography, economics or mathematics) or in education; Excellent knowledge of English and French, Spanish or Arabic (a very good knowledge of any of the 3 languages is highly desirable); Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Access; Motivated, autonomous, thorough and punctual; Good capacity for analysis and synthesis; Interns must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or hold a valid work permit in Canada. Compensation UNESCO internships are not paid. A letter of acknowledgement will be issued to the interns upon successful completion of the internship.
