aPTT-SA (Soluble Activator)
The Ristocetin Cofactor assay measures the ability of vWF in the patient’s plasma to agglutinate formalin-fixed
(metabolically inactive) platelets in the presence of ristocetin. This assay is more sensitive than RIPA to mild
reductions in vWF and more often used to monitor therapy in vWD patients.

Fibrinogen
vWF:Ag, PC & PS ELISA Assays
For quantitative assessment of fibrinogen, Helena’s Fibrinogen Assay is well-suited to automated, semiautomated and manual systems. Fibrinogen Assay components are available as a kit and separately.
ELISA kits offer sensitive and specific assays with
faster turnaround times, greater ease of use, and clearcut standardized results using established reference
preparations. Antigen assays employ 6-point reference
curves with accurate detection as low as 5% of normal.
Fibrinogen
•Clauss methodology for quantitation of fibrinogen in acquired and congenital disorders
•Uses high thrombin (~100 NIH units/mL) and low fibrinogen (2 to 50 mg/dL) concentrations so that
clotting times are dependent on plasma fibrinogen
•Not significantly effected by heparin concentrations below 0.6 USP units/mL and FDP below 100 µg/mL

The Thrombin Clotting Time, or Thrombin Time (TT), assay
is ideal for qualitative assessment of plasma fibrinogen and
interfering substances such as FDP and heparin.
•Excellent, rapid screening test for qualitative
assessment of plasma fibrinogen and interfering
substances such as heparin and FDP
•Uses a low concentration of heparin (~3 NIH units/mL)
with undiluted plasma
• Sensitive to fibrinogen levels below 70 mg/dL
