January is a new month, new year and
new start. January is Celebration of Life
Month. Let's make a heartfelt effort to
make the most of everything that comes
our way.
Celebrate Life every day by doing these
two simple things:
1. LAUGH: The power of laughter triggers
healthy physical changes in our bodies,
builds up our immune system, increases
our energy, lessens pain, and protects us
from the damaging effects of stress. Join
us at Happy Hour, New Resident Mixer,
Activity Happy Hour and most any social
THIS MONTH’Ssilver
event, as we always have a good laugh or
two.
2. LEARN: Increase your knowledge to
celebrate your life. Learning something
new exercises the brain — something
simple from learning a new word every
day; participating in Think Tank and
Brain Health University; or joining or
starting a new game.
Other ways we will Celebrate Life this
month: Zoo Light Outing on Jan. 6; Wine
Tasting with Dinner on Jan. 15; watch
the film “Age of Champions” on Sunday,
Jan. 18 — this is an award-winning PBS
documentary that follows five competitors
who sprint, leap and swim for gold at the
National Senior Olympics; and attend the
Cirque de la Symphonie on Jan. 31. These
are just a few of the events that we have
planned to Celebrate Life.

our Resident and Family Survey. The results
will be coming out soon. Our scores have
improved; however, there are areas that we will
be working on improving. Our action plan will
be presented to all of the residents this month.
We appreciate your feedback and honesty.

Pam has been calling Party Bingo for the past year. This is one of the evening
activities for the residents, and it's a highlight of the week. Barbara calls Bingo
in the afternoon during the week. Mary pitches in whenever there is a need for
someone to call Bingo -- either to replace Barbara and/or Pam. All three of these
ladies have also taken it to another level by rounding up residents to play Texas
Hold 'Em Poker on the weekends.

EVENT RECAP
treasures of life
We celebrated Veterans Day on Saturday, Nov. 8, with recognition,
certificates and a veterans pin to all of our residents and spouses
who served in the military. Afterwards, we had a wonderful buffet
and we were entertained by Scott and Suzie.
Everyone enjoyed the cowboy buffet that we had on Nov. 18 that
featured filet mignon, baked potatoes and entertainment by Dale
Kale. One of our outings was to the Arizona Science Museum,
where we explored the Forces of Nature.

JAMES JOHNSON (J.R.), our Transportation
Driver, is our CHART Hero. J.R. has only
worked at Andara for two months; however, he
has integrated himself into the residents' lives as
J.R.
if he has worked here for years. He goes beyond
giving exceptional customer service to all of the
residents. J.R. ensures that residents are safe at all times while he drives them to
their appointments, has gotten to know them on a personal level, and is very mild
mannered. J.R. is one of the best team players at Andara — always willing to help
(e.g., shopping, picking up various supplies and making bank transactions). We are
honored to recognize J.R. as our CHART Hero for December. Congratulations!
We invite all residents to attend the New
Resident Mixer on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at
3:30 p.m. in Josephine's Lounge. We offer
wonderful conversation, complimentary wine
and beer, and tasty appetizers.
