JR-EAST A spacious and welcoming resort train What is a“Switch-back”? 1 Obasute Station Observation Deck Resort View Furusato The Zenkoji-daira scenery, known as one of Japan’ s 3 great views, as well as the now uncommon “switch-back” can be appreciated here. This new-style resort train is equipped with a hybrid engine system and runs along the Ōito Line with the majestic Northern Alps in the background. This environmentally friendly train is an experience not to miss. The Resort View Furusato runs between Nagano and Minami-Otari Stations, stopping at Matsumoto Station along the way. This is a mode of operation adopted to climb steep inclines. If heading for Minami-Otari, the train first enters the return line and arrives at the station coming in backwards. Then departs moving forwards. On the Shinonoi line, Obasute Station, as well as the Kuwanohara signals between Inariyama Station and Obasute Station, have switchbacks. w Vie nt poi Obasute Station switch-back schematic (outward bound) ◀To Matsumoto Car 1 Car 2 Car 1 Car 2 Obasute Station platform 3 2 Car 1 Car 2 Obasute Station platform 1 1 2 ▶3 Proceed in the order ▶ Step 2 is traversed backwards The driver’s cab is shown by the Offer: Chikuma City Tourist Information Car 1 Car 2 To Nagano▶ .
