and he provided support to European campaign candidates – to name but a few of his activities. In the 80s he also served a term as a councillor on Humberside
C.C.
Reg’s funeral is being held on Thursday 15th January, 10.30am, at Haltemprice Crematorium, WILLERBY (near Hull) HU10 6NS.
Mark Menzies MP hands out Prince’s Trust awards
Fylde MP Mark Menzies spoke of his admiration for the achievements of a group of young people as he presented their certificates for completing the
Kirkham Prince’s Trust scheme.
The Member of Parliament was asked to hand out the awards during a moving ceremony at Ribby Hall in Wrea Green on Friday.
During the event he spoke to the group – aged between 16 and 25 – about the challenges they had undertaken and overcome during the 12-week Lancashire Fire
and Rescue Service course and how it had helped their confidence
Afterwards, Mr Menzies said: “The Prince’s Trust offers young people, many of who have had a challenging start in life, the opportunity to gain confidence and
skills through working as a team to complete community projects.
“Members of the group told me how much they had enjoyed taking part in work experience with various employers and about the useful training they had received
in interview techniques and writing CVs.
“The group were assisted by people from a number of different walks of life and hopefully they are now better equipped to enter the workplace. Indeed I was
pleased to hear that a number of those who had taken part had now been offered positions with different employers.
“During the awards ceremony, I was asked to make a short speech and to hand out certificates to those who had taken part and I told them I was hugely
impressed by what they had achieved in a relatively short period.
“The Prince’s Trust is obviously a very worthwhile programme and one which I will always be happy to support in the future.”
Martin Vickers MP - Prime Minister Praises Cleethorpes MP on Local Economy
During Prime Minister's Questions today, Cleethorpes MP, Martin Vickers, highlighted key training investment in northern Lincolnshire which is set to
benefit local people and the local economy. Martin referred to the Humber UTC being built in Scunthorpe, the establishment of a national college for
wind energy, and the expansion of local training facilities when mentioning how the offshore renewables sector is set to boost the northern
Lincolnshire economy.
Martin asked the Prime Minister, "The Government have repeatedly highlighted the importance of northern Lincolnshire and the wider Humber area to the offshore
renewables sector. Does my right hon. Friend agree that the recent announcement of the establishment of a national college for wind energy, a university technical
college in Scunthorpe and further expansion of existing local training facilities cement the opportunities for local people to benefit from the industry, boost the local
economy and highlight the importance of northern Lincolnshire to the northern powerhouse?"
In response the Prime Minister praised Martin's efforts in working hard to bring investment for the Humber economy. He continued by noting how the Humber LEP
has £100 million for local projects, which could realise up to 9000 jobs.
Mr Cameron said, "My hon. Friend is a real champion for north Lincolnshire and for Humberside in general. We are determined that this recovery is going to be
different from previous recoveries and that we are going to see growth in jobs and investment right across our country. That is why he and others with me have
been working hard to bring investment to the Humber, including of course the vital Siemens plant, and why we have seen employment go up and unemployment
come down. Because of the local growth deals agreed in July, the Humber local enterprise partnership has over £100 million for local projects, which should create
up to 9,000 jobs and allow more than 5,000 homes to be built, so we are determined to see recovery embedded right across the country."
David Davis MP welcomes fall in water bills for Yorkshire Water customers.
David Davis MP is delighted with the news that families in the region will, over the next five years, see an average reduction of 3 per cent in their water
bills. The average household bill for water supplied by Yorkshire Water, for the period 2014-15 was £373, Ofwat’s final determinations indicate that, by
2019-20, this will have dropped to £361.
Mr Davis said, “The news that household water bills will see a reduction of 3 per cent is extremely positive for the area. This is especially true when many families
in the area are still facing significant financial pressures.
Nevertheless, it is important to remember that Yorkshire Water also have responsibility for the development and upkeep of drains and watercourses across the
region. Reductions in household bills should not have a detrimental impact on the maintenance of this important infrastructure. The devastating effects of floods
over the past few years go to show how vital it is that proper care is taken in maintaining these drains in order to reduce the likelihood of flooding.
Yorkshire Water need to ensure that these reductions in bills do not impede on their ability to ensure that drainage systems are in good working condition and that
they sufficiently protect our homes.”
Nigel Evans MP meets with Foreign Secretary
Nigel met with the Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, at a meeting of the North-West group of Conservative MPs. The group, which Mr Evans chairs,
discussed issues including the British response to the rise of Islamic State, the Ebola crisis in West Africa, the continued strained relations between
Russia and the West and the health of the defence industry in Lancashire.
Speaking after the meeting Mr Evans said, “I am grateful that the Foreign Secretary was able to devote so much of his time to address our group. We are living in
increasingly uncertain times globally and it is therefore vital that Britain continues to engage with the world and maintains its seat at the top table of global politics.
Our ability to have influence in the world directly impacts on how prosperous we are. We also had the opportunity to discuss Britain’s future with the European
Union and the Foreign Secretary was able to reiterate the Conservative Party’s commitment to hold an in-out referendum on our membership in 2017.”
