We are go into 2015 and I would like to see more Brother getting involved. By coming to monthly meetings, volunteering for one of the programs. This is your Council and if you get involved it would make this Council the best in the State. You need to stay in touch with the Council and read the PREACO. Just a reminder that our Super 50/50 Raffle is in full swing so get your tickets and get some for your friends. This is one of our fund raisers that always does well. Get your tickets cause time for the drawing will soon be here. The Annual Christmas Food Baskets were delivered on December 20th. PGK Dick Rieger, Chairman of the Annual Christmas Food Basket Program and all the Brothers that volunteered did a great job. This program fed 200 families which consisted of 725 individuals and the total weight of the food was over 16,000 pounds. I would like to thank our Council Chaplain Father Scott Shaffer and all the people that donated to this program. This shows, if you get involved with a program we as a group can make it a huge difference. On December 12th, Deputy Grand Knight John Budenas, Chairman of the God Special People Program had the Annual God Special People Christmas Party. Everyone had a great time and Santa made his appearance. I would like to thank John and all the brothers that made this event possible. Just a reminder that the New Security and Swipe Card System are installed and online. If you would like a swipe card and are a member of this council, they are available at the bar for a $5 card charge. For those of you that don’t know Brother Nick Crosta has been putting out something to eat every Sunday for the NFL Games. I would like to thank Nick for stepping up and doing it. So come on down and watch the games at the Council and enjoy the company of your Council Brothers. Mark your calendars on January 18th, this is NFC / AFC Championship Games. The Council Softball Team runs an event at the council that day. There is great food and drinks plus you spend time with fellow brothers watch the games. Contact Brother Jeff A to Z for details. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2 Knights of Columbus Newsletter 2 FROM YOUR SPIRITUAL ADVISER Dear Brothers and Sisters, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Yes, it is still The Season, and the Christmas Season will last till Sunday, January 11th, The Feast of The Baptism of The Lord. I certainly hope that Christmas and The New Year were most blessed for you and your loved ones. Even though the calendar says that the Christmas Season ends on January 11th, I hope that Christmas remains in your hearts throughout the whole year. What happens when Christmas ends you might ask. We’ll we go into Ordinary Time in our Liturgical Calendar. But don’t let the name fool you or make you complacent. In most of our lives, and indeed in the world that we live, Ordinary Time is anything but “ordinary.” Just look at what is happening in the world around us. After 50 years, “normal relations” are going to be restored with Cuba. We are going to see and hear much wrangling in our government on embargos, trade agreements, human rights, elections, immigration and on and on. Not just about Cuba, but in all the happenings in our own country and beyond. Elections…well the is only the beginning of 2015 and the next national elections are not until November of 2016…May The Good Lord help us! No, nothing is “ordinary.” When all these events are taking their twists and turns around us, maybe that is not a bad idea, to turn to The Good Lord to help us. Help us to cope, and by us, included are our families, friends, neighbors, our country and its leaders, both local and national, the leaders and citizens of our country as well as other countries struggling through strife. Remember our Church, the people of God, leaders and all its members, our Knights of Columbus. We become almost callous at the mention of “Peace in the World” and it has become just a cliché. But it is real, the thirst for peace amongst nations, in our homes and our communities. To pray for compassion, understanding, and tolerance…this what we aspire to, not just for ourselves, but our children and their children…our world and theirs. In the words of Saint Francis of Assisi,” let there be Peace on Earth, and let it begin with me.” This is our hope, this is our prayer. May our hope for the New Year reside in the Faith we have and the love of Jesus. May The Lord give you Faith, Hope and Love and Bless each of you. Please pray for me as I pray for you. We will have a brown bag auction again, so bring one to raffle off! God Bless, AN OLD STORY BUT WORTH REPEATING God’s Special People Christmas Party – 2014 My thanks go out to all of my Brother Knights and others who volunteered their time at the God’s Special People Christmas Party on December 12. Nick Crosta did his usual magnificent job in the kitchen preparing dinner for our 140 guests and Santa Claus (Dick Rieger) brought a lot of joy and excitement to them as well. Once again, Steve Kempf provided a variety of seasonal music and popular favorites and a wonderful time was had by all. My sincere appreciation goes out to all who made it a memorable event for all who attended. John Budenas, Chairman God’s Special People program If you don't know GOD, don't make stupid remarks!!!!!! A United States Marine was taking some college courses between assignments. He had completed 20 missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "GOD, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform... I'll give you exactly 15 min." The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am GOD, I'm still waiting.. "It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and punched him, knocking him out. The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked and stunned, and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, "What in the world is the matter with you? Why did you do that?" The Marine calmly replied, "GOD was busy today protecting America's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid remarks and act like an idiot, So He sent me."
