MADD Awards of Excellence Honoring Our Heroes for their Excellence in Saving Lives! Friday, February 6, 2015 Prestonwood Country Club, Cary NC Why MADD? About Mothers Against Drunk Driving When MADD was founded in 1980, drunk driving killed more than 21,000 people annually. Since that time, the number of drunk driving deaths has been cut by more than half. Sadly though, drunk driving still accounts for nearly one third of all traffic fatalities. MADD has put a face on this violent crime and has made drunk driving socially unacceptable. Why it Should Matter to You • One in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime. • Last year, North Carolina lost 413 people due to alcohol related crashes and over 8,000 were injured. • On average a drunk driver has driven drunk 80-88 times before he/she is arrested. MADD Goes into Action • Support our heroes - Support highvisibility law enforcement to catch drunk drivers and discourage others from driving drunk. • Sober to start - Require ignition interlock devices, or in-car breathalyzers, for all convicted drunk drivers, to prove they are sober before their car will start. • Secure the future - Support the development of automotive technologies to automatically determine whether or not the driver is above the legal limit of .08 BAC. Advance technology is different than an interlock as it is passive and will render the car inoperable if the driver is drunk. 1 in 3 people will be involved in a drunk driving crash in their lifetime. This is 100% preventable. Honoring Our Heroes MADD is committed to supporting the criminal justice community and mission champions in their efforts to protect our society from needless death and injury caused by impaired driving and underage drinking. This annual event serves as a way for MADD to honor our heroes for their excellence in the field, helps foster relationships and sustains passion for saving lives. This event also helps to create awareness and community support for initiatives to eliminate drunk driving and prevent underage drinking. Every law enforcement agency, community entity, prevention outreach program, and mission partner within the state can be nominated for this great honor. MADD Brand Recognition: • 97% of the total adult population has heard of MADD and nearly everyone recognizes that the organization’s main goals are to stop drunk driving, prevent underage drinking and offer support and help to victims. • 62% feel that MADD has been effective in reducing drunk driving. • 55% of people view MADD as very favorable. They consider MADD a good cause and agree with MADD’s mission to stop drunk driving and make people aware of drunk driving. Brand Loyalty: Partnership not only creates brand loyalty among current customers, but according to the 2010 Cone Cause Revolution Study, aligning with a cause is translating into purchasing: • 83% of Americans wish more of the products, services and retailers they use would support causes • 80% of Americans are likely to switch brands, about equal in price and quality, to one that supports a cause • 61% of Americans try a new brand or one they’ve never heard of when it supports a cause • 59% of consumers believe that businesses should address problems in their own backyard • 85% of consumers have a more positive image of a product or company when it supports a cause they care about.
