OUR PARISH TEAM
After the Lord was baptised, the heavens were opened, and the Spirit
descended upon him like a dove, and the voice of the Father
thundered: This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.
First Reading: Isaiah 55:1-11
Here the prophet invites all to the rich banquet of life God provides
for his people. In baptism we share in the life of God.
Responsorial Psalm: Isaiah 12:2-6
You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation.

Second Reading: 1 John 5:1-9
Faith in Jesus leads us to love one another and gives us the ability to
overcome evil. Jesus’ baptism and death bear witness to his identity.
Gospel Acclamation:
Alleluia, Alleluia!
John saw Jesus approaching him, and said: this is the Lamb of God
who takes away the sins of the world.
Alleluia!
Gospel: Mark 1:7-11
This tells how Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist in the river
Jordan, and the signs that accompanied his baptism.
Reflection
We celebrate birthdays with a lot of fuss. But never our baptism. Yet
this is our birthday as Christians. In today’s liturgy we celebrate the
baptism of Jesus. In celebrating his baptism we celebrate our own
baptism too, and renew its grace within us.

Official Prayer to the Holy Family for the Synod
Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
in you we contemplate
The splendour of true love,
to you we turn with trust.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
grant that our families too
may be places of communion and prayer,
authentic schools of the Gospel
and small domestic Churches.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
may families never again
experience violence, rejection and division:
may all who have been hurt or scandalized
find ready comfort and healing.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
may the approaching Sunod of Bishops
make us once more mindful
of the sacredness and inviolability of the family,
and its beauty in God’s plan.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph
graciously hear our prayer.
Amen.
Reflection
In his account of Jesus’ baptism, Mark’s main concern is
with Jesus’ identity. The heavenly voice, ‘You are my
beloved Son’, echoes Psalm 2:7, a psalm used for the
coronation of the kings from the house of David, and
thus points to Jesus as the Messiah. The words ‘with you
I am well pleased’, echo Isaiah 42:1, pointing to Jesus as
the Isaian Servant who is to bear the infirmities of many.
Thus Mark reveals Jesus as royal Messiah and Suffering
Servant.
6.30am Morning Mass
