U.S. FIGURE SKATING 2015 SPRING TRAINING CAMP MARCH 29, 2015 U.S. Figure Skating is proud to announce the 2nd annual Spring Training Camp! This camp is geared towards pre-juvenile through intermediate level athletes working to get a competitive head start prior to the summer competition season. The 2015 U.S. Figure Skating Spring Training Camp is a one-day camp, modeled after the U.S. Figure Skating National Program Components Camp, and will feature elite faculty members selected for their expertise in teaching athletes skills in the program components area. Several current and former Team USA skaters will also assist in coaching. Athletes will participate in on and off ice sessions designed to improve the core skating and performing skills including skills needed to excel in the program components area. RINK All weekend camp activities will be held at the East West Ice Palace, 11446 Artesia Blvd., Artesia, CA 90701. U.S. Figure Skating thanks the East West Ice Palace staff for the support and effort in working with U.S. Figure Skating to put together a great camp! REGISTRATION FEE The registration fee for the Spring Training Camp is $189 per athlete. The registration fee includes: • All classes: Approximately 7 hours of instruction, including four hours of on-ice instruction in a group setting • Meals: Lunch and a pizza party at the end of camp • A logo T-shirt, event materials and a special gift • Parents’ education classes for one parent REGISTRATION PROCESS Registration for the Spring Training Camp is online, and can be found be clicking HERE. • The registration deadline is February 27, 2015 • The registration fee must be paid in full by credit card at the time of registration. • The capacity of the camp is 80 athletes, and registration will close if these spots fill sooner than the February 27 deadline. • Athletes who register after the 80 spots have been filled, but prior to February 27, will be put on a waiting list and won’t be expected to pay unless a spot becomes available. S.T.A.R.S. (Standardized testing of Athleticism to Recognize Skaters) is a one-day event consisting of 15 off-ice tests meant to evaluate developing athletes in three areas: 1) Agility, Balance, and Coordination; 2) Strength and Power; 3) Flexibility. Running Time: Saturday, March 28, 2015, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm* Cost: $39 (discounted from $49) - This includes assesment, personalized results report (deliverd online post-combine season), S.T.A.R.S. t-shirt and a sports science seminar. Athletes attending both Spring Training Camp and the S.T.A.R.S. Combine will recieve a promo code with a $10 discount when registering for S.T.A.R.S. HOW THE CAMP WORKS U.S. Figure Skating’s Athlete Development Department and Athlete Development Committee are responsible for the curriculum, faculty selection and design of the camp. Athletes will be assigned to “teams” of approximately 16-20 athletes of similar skill, age and skating discipline. The focus of the camp is on developing skills in a relaxed setting, which will help competitive skaters build their scores in the five Program Components marks: Skating Skills, Transitions, Choreography, Performance/Execution and Musical Interpretation. CHAPERONES TENTATIVE PARENTS EDUCATION TOPICS Topics may include: • Everything you want to know about U.S. Figure Skating! • Judging Seminar • Balancing school and skating • Sports Science Parents Education schedule, including exact times and seminar descriptions, will be sent to all parents approximately three weeks prior to the event. The Los Angeles airport is approximately 22 miles from the rink and the Long Beach airport is approximately 7.5 miles from the rink. For those planning to fly to this camp, a rental car is recommended. HOUSING REFUND POLICY Athletes will be supervised during the camp hours by team leaders. There will be two team leaders assigned to every team of up to 20 athletes. COACHES TRACK The coaches track will run parallel to the athlete track at Spring Training Camp, March 29th. PSA Representatives, along with Singles Development Subcommittee representatives will lead the Coaches Track. They will be observing classes with you, leading group discussions, overseeing lectures and your support team throughout camp. They are also there to network and help coaches discuss anything they saw on the ice or have follow-up discussions to classroom sessions. TRANSPORTATION & AREA ATTRACTIONS The official hotel is the Double Tree Norwalk, 13111 Sycamore Dr. Norwalk, CA 90650. The hotel is located approximatley 3.5 miles from the rink. A block of rooms has been reserved for our group. The rate is $129/night, including a full, hot buffet breakfast for 2 quests. To recieve the group rate, please call the hotel and mention U.S. Figure Skating. Parents’ Education classes will be held at the DoubleTree. All other classes will be at the rink. There are many tourist attractions within close proximity to the rink and hotel: • Long Beach – 15 miles, 20 minute drive • Disneyland Resort– 14 miles, 20-40 minute drive All registrations are considered final. However, refunds (minus a $50 processing fee) will be allowed for athletes who withdrawal prior to March 6, 2015, due to documented injuries, medical conditions or family emergencies. There will be no refunds for no-shows or athletes who withdraw the week of camp.
