January, 2015
The Holiday’s are a special time of year, when we are reminded to give thanks and recognize the
importance of friends, family, and celebrating life. Across the Greystone Health Network, our
communities celebrated the holiday’s with festive fervor, getting into the spirit with ugly sweater
contests, BELIEVE trees, and more!
The Club Health & Rehabilitation Center was part of The Villages
annual holiday parade this year, representing Greystone with a
“Grandma got run over by a reindeer” theme, as well as holding an
ugly sweater content for their associates. The winners of their sweater
contest, and their float, are pictured below. The rest of our
communities got in the spirit as well, with the BELIEVE tree at Viera
Health & Rehab and some holiday decorations at Unity Health &
Rehab (bottom right and top right, respectively).

It’s always amazing to me how fast the
years go by, and this year is no different.
Being a part of the Alhambra family with all
of you has been such a blessing and
wonderful experience for me, I am always
inspired by the vast recoveries that I witness
on a daily basis. I am also grateful to my staff. Our business
doesn’t close the doors at the end of the day, we work around
the clock and through every holiday, we’re here if there is a
disaster and some of us are on call 24/7. It’s a passion and a
calling to be in this field, and I want to thank all my staff for
their hard work and dedication.
In the new year I want to continue with our renovations,
most of which we are in the final stages of completing.
However, sometimes the best ideas are right in front of us and
we fail to see them, so if you have a suggestion please let me
know.
I hope you all have a happy and prosperous year!

Introducing a New Member of the Alhambra Management Team!
Written By: Dominique DePaolo; Business Office Manager
Written By: Christopher Langebrake; Therapy Director
Greetings to All,
Hi my name is Dominique DePaolo, the new Business Office Manager of Alhambra. I
joined this organization on December 1, 2014 to expand my horizons and to continue to do
what I love best, helping others!
I have more than ten years of experience in increasingly responsible roles within
customer service. In my most recent position, I directed Social Services at a local skilled
nursing facility in our community. My experience is enhanced by my educational
background, my willingness to learn as much as possible, my extrovert personality and my
easiness on communication.
In my free time I am working on obtaining a second degree; the field is yet to be
determined however Gerontology is running a strong first place at this time. You can also
catch me in the gym six days a week as this past year I have really gained an interest in
better lifestyle living.
My goal is to get to know each and every one of you, thus far I have felt the warmth
of welcomes by all. With that said I thank you. If at any time you have any questions or
concerns please feel free to stop by my office or request for me to visit you!

Keeping Floors Clean: A Huge Safety Issue
Written By: Edwin Pagan; Director of Housekeeping
Keeping floors sterile is not only just a hygiene issue, but just as much a safety one too. Slip
and falls are by far the main reason for major injuries in the workforce; more than 90% of
injuries being broken or fractured bones. Besides the human costs (injuries) which are
substantial enough in themselves, the financial burden reaches over half a billion dollars
nationwide each year.
Sanitation is the main reason the floors, or any other parts of the facility, are adamantly cleaned,
but safety of residents and employees is just as imperative in everyone’s well being. People
staying at Alhambra, both for residence and short-term alike, are here for health reasons. The
last thing anyone needs is getting any additional illness from the place they have come to in
order to better their health. On the same note, staff needs prevention of illness and injuries in
order to adequately care for patients and residents. In summary: clean floors are a MUST and
will always be kept in that manner.

Looking Forward To Another Great Year!
Written By: Christopher Langebrake; Therapy Director
Happy New Year everyone! The New Year always reminds me of New Year’s Resolutions, even
though they don’t seem as common anymore. New Years is a time of a reflection on the past and a look
ahead to the future. We generally resolve to make ourselves better in some way or promise to change our
lives in a positive direction.
It is never too late to learn something new or make a positive change in our life, and your friendly
therapy department is there to help. Even simple things like eating or getting out of bed can become difficult
over time and it is important to share with the staff any problems that you might be having that you didn’t
have before. The therapy department is here and more than happy to help resolve those issues as well.
This New Year I would like to invite everyone to resolve within themselves to be just a little bit better
than they were the previous year in some small way. Whether it involves exercise to make ourselves
healthy, or working to eliminate a personal challenge or difficulty we face, everyone has the potential to
progress.
Sincerely Happy New Year,
Christopher Langebrake, Rehab Director.

Regularly Made Resolutions are a Must!
Written by: Christopher Williams, Recreation Director
At the end of every Holiday Season, people love to
“brag” about all they are going to accomplish in the next year.
Some people want to form better nutrition habits, others
choose to learn a new skill, many choose the cliché “I’m going
to start exercising regularly...the list could go on until the end
of time! You may question why it is that people need to
promise these new habits or accomplishments on this
particular day, and the answer is: They do not; new habits can
be formed and implemented at any time of the day, week,
month or year...what is so significant about this day? Well, to
be honest, New Year’s day is important to resolutions simply
because it is a celebrated moment in which we all have a
“reality check” about our current lives and futures.
People very much need these specific “holidays” to
actually examine themselves.
This self-analysis is not in
reference to a quick look in the mirror, but is about Deep
Introspection: the measurement of general emotions, judgment position in this world, status level in the future, and so
on. Well, considering the average human has self-reflection of
this nature only 30-60 minutes in a 1, 440-minute day, a good
majority of our life goes by with no in-depth contemplation of
who/what we actually are in this world.
This year, make at least one of your resolutions a
One of the Many Great 2015 Holiday Parties At
Alhambra!
promise to examine yourself and your life on a regular basis,
not just in one quick moment as part of a holiday tradition.
