Jan. 10 – Jan. 11, 2015 page 2
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
With our celebration of our Lord’s Baptism, the Christmas season comes to an end.
Nonetheless, we continue to dwell on the mystery
of God-become-man, and unpack the meaning of
Christ’s Incarnation. In today’s Holy Scripture we
behold another manifestation of epiphany of who
Jesus is. The Father’s voice and the Spirit’s descent affirm the Second Person of the Holy Trinity’s
mission that the Kingdom of God is upon us.
Our own entrance into the Kingdom, of course, begins
with our Baptism, and so this great feast is a good time to renew
and revive our baptismal promises. This year of 2015 provides
us with several significant opportunities to live out our Baptism.
On May 3, Bishop Bambera will be the main celebrant for the
25th Anniversary of the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. Following
the 10:30 am Mass, we will have a great procession from St.
John’s to the Chapel with representatives of all our parish
groups and ministries. Initial planning has begun but many more
volunteers are needed to make this a very special celebration.
On February 3, Thursday evening at 7:00 pm in Holy
Family Hall, we will have our first Pastoral Council Meeting of
the new year with Don Barney presiding as our new chairman.
Come join us and be part of the planning for the 25th Anniversary. In preparation we will be having a Parish Mission conducted by Father Bill Garrott, O.P. He is a well-known mission
preacher and will begin his presentation on April 25, concluding
on Wednesday, April 29. This parish retreat or mission will, indeed, prepare us for our May 3 celebration.
Also, we know that our nation will be graced by the
presence of Our Holy Father Pope Francis in Philadelphia this
September. He will preside at the World Meeting of Families
and, hopefully, we will have a contingent from our parish to attend this historic event. In preparation for this event, Father
Reichlen and I will be conducting the preparatory catechesis:
“Love is Our Mission - The Family Fully Alive.” The ten sessions
will be based on the 10 chapters found in the catechetical publication. We shall have both evening and daytime sessions beginning on February 17, Tuesday evening, and Wednesday, the
18, following noon Mass. The same topics will be addressed. So
one has the opportunity to partake of either or switch depending
on one’s schedule. The sessions will continue for 10 consecutive weeks. Please call the parish office to enroll in your chosen
session and to order the book.
As you see, 2015 is going to be a busy year but a wonderful time to avail ourselves of the many graces God has in
store for us.
With Blessings,
Father Langan

UPDATING PARISH RECORDS: Important notice for all
young adult Catholics - If you have completed your high
school or college education and are now assuming the responsibilities of adult independence, you must register in the parish
where you reside. If you are presently living with your parents
and employed, you still must register as an adult and begin receiving envelopes. If you are living on your own, in addition to
the above, we need your new address and present state of life
information, i.e. married or single. If you have moved outside of
the territory of St. John the Evangelist & St. Mary Magdalen
(Honesdale), St. Joseph (Rileyville) and St. Bernard (Beach
Lake), you no longer belong to this parish but rather to the parish in which you reside.
In order to receive approvals or recommendations for
sponsorship, godparents or marriage preparation, it is absolutely necessary for you to be enrolled in your proper
parish and be supportive by way of Mass participation and
stewardship. Kindly contact the parish office immediately
to be properly registered.
