Qualified candidates should apply through
Central Admission System under NACTE
using the following website,
STUDENT INTAKE
The school has two intakes of students
March and September. For Pre Service
training is March and September, and In
service training is in September/October
each year
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS
A candidate must have completed form
four or above
Candidate must possess at least D among
one subject and C in two other subjects,
These science subjects include: Physics,
Chemistry and Biology for form four applicants or at least principal E for each science
subject for form six candidates
A pass in Mathematics and/ or English is an
added advantage
In service training
All interested candidates must register
their names at DMOs’office in their
respective Districts. DMOs’ office will
forward the applications to the MOHSW
through the Permanent Secretary for
entrance examinations, selection and
enrollment.

BACKGROUND
Mirembe School of Nursing previously
known as Mirembe Psychiatric School of
Nursing is a government Institution under
the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
It was established in July 1973. The school
is situated within Mirembe National
Mental Health hospital compound in
Dodoma Municipality, 2.5 km away from
town Centre westward. The school is also
the Headquarter office for Central Zonal
Health Resource Centre (ZHRC). The
purpose of the school is to provide quality
general and mental health nursing training
to student nurses coming from all over the
country.
The school started by conducting short
term training ranging from six months to
one year at certificate level. As time went
on the duration of training changed from 1
to 11/2 to 2 years and awards offered also
changed from Certificate to Diploma.
In 1994 a two years Advanced Diploma
programme started. In 2002 the school
was registered under NACTE with registration no. REG/HAS/002, and was accredited in 2007. In 2008 the school started enrolment of Pre service student nurses under the PHSDP/MMAM Programme.

health nursing training to student nurses

a conducive environment equipped with
appropriate teaching materials.
Both programmes are guided by the
curriculum obtained from the Ministry of
health and Social Welfare and National
Council for Technical Education (NACTE).
The curriculums adopt the National
Technical Award (NTA) levels system.

Pre-service Diploma under Primary
Health Service Development
Programme (PHSDP/MMAM).
In the near future, the Advanced
Diploma programme will be replaced by
a degree programme in Mental Health
Nursing speciality.
