long time. He was placed in a home and was returned
with issues, however he has been put into a foster
home on a smallholding and the lady cannot praise
him enough. She says he is a dream dog. Good with

does need a lot of exercise, which is why we think he
had issues in his last home. Ideally he needs a really

MOTORING MONTHLY ‘BUMP START’
My wife’s daughter was recently bemoaning the fact that some of the local, much vaunted ‘amusement parks’ did not provide much
amusement for the money (No names, no road-drill!).
Were there no dodgems? I queried. What ARE dodgems? - an unexpected question from granddaughter, aged six.
I started to explain how you could drive around in a small electric car and deliberately collide with others…Hang on, is this a good
idea, I thought?
I recollected having been bitten by the motoring bug at an early age, about ten or eleven it must have been, not long after the war
(WWII to the wiseacres) when I chanced upon a fun fair at Rhyl, Llandudno or possibly even Blackpool. Near the sea front there
was a circuit with a shiny steel surface, about 150 yards in length, featuring rear engined petrol powered cars that were as big as
an MG Midget. They even looked good, mine was cream with brown wings and red upholstery.
The engines were probably 500cc single cylindered, ex. government surplus sloggers…What mattered more than the tech.spec.
in those days, was that they were flexible enough to manage without gearboxes and that they were FAST…There is no way that they
could be allowed by today’s nanny society! The combination of bald balloon tyres, slippery track and plenty of oomph were
intoxicating for a young boy.
During the war or the privations thereafter I had hardly ever ridden in a car, indeed, at that time my father was extremely proud of his
first car, a newly acquired Austin 10, a 1935 Lichfield model. It was this old boy, with the registration number BYL 218, and thus
called ‘Bill’ that had conveyed the Dawe family on their first motoring holiday. I spent all my carefully garnered pocket money on an
orgy of opposite lock slides and learnt more about car control in an afternoon than any driving instructor could possibly impart…
If you have a youngster, who is fretting to join the motoring mob, why not let them experience a few laps at a local go-cart track?
There they can experiment to their hearts content, and learn about balance, throttle, braking and car control, without being a danger
to road users. Dad might enjoy it too…

SAUSAGE PASTA
FAST LEMON PUDDING
A quick, tasty mid-week meal idea
A microwave friendly sponge pudding
ready in 10 minutes
YOU WILL NEED:
6 cooked sausages sliced
300g penne pasta
1 de-seeded & sliced large red pepper
1 onion sliced
12 cherry tomatoes
Handful torn fresh basil
YOU WILL NEED:
100g self raising flour * 100g caster sugar
100g softened butter * 2 eggs * Zest of 1 lemon
1 tsp vanilla essence * 4 tbsp lemon curd
Crème fraiche or ice cream to serve
METHOD:
Put the penne pasta into a pan of boiling water
and cook for 12 minutes.
Meanwhile fry the onion in oil until soft, add the pepper
and cook for a further 2 minutes, then add sausages
and cherry tomatoes, cook for a further 4 minutes.
Mix all the ingredients together including the torn basil in
a bowl with the penne pasta.
Serve with crusty fresh bread.
METHOD:
Mix the sugar, butter, flour, eggs, lemon zest and vanilla
essence together until creamy, spoon into a medium
sized microwave-proof baking dish.
Microwave on high for 3 mins until risen & set all the way
through, leave to stand for 1 min.
Heat the lemon curd for 30 secs in the microwave & stir
until smooth, then pour over the top of the pudding &
serve with either crème fraiche or ice cream.
Come back next month for more ‘mouthwatering’ meal ideas.
