DISTRICT CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS – EDITION 1 Highlights of the upcoming District Conference on the 1st to 3rd May will include the exceptional keynote speakers being engaged to “Ignite the Passion” and inspire Rotarians and partners to do even more amazing good work and strive harder to “Light up Rotary”. Who better to “Ignite the Passion” and get the conference off to a flying start in the opening session on Friday evening, than Shane Webcke. No one has ever played sport of any kind with more passion than Shane Webcke. Not necessarily a gifted junior sportsman, Shane learnt the real value of hard work by working hard. Shane never settled for near enough is good enough. He is a leader and role model who is highly commended and revered by his peers. One of the most decorated front row forwards to have played Rugby League in its 100 year history. Shane is a loyal family man and a successful businessman. He is the ambassador for Suncorp Sunwise, Junior Rugby League and the APN Adopt-A-Family. While Shane’s sporting story is enlightening, his insight into the success of the Broncos is engrossing. A consummate team man, who realises better than anyone that there is no easy way to achieve success, his anecdotes and principles on life are truly inspirational. Shane is well known as the Sport Presenter on Channel 7. He is also a successful author of several books including his autobiography titled “Warhorse”, and has earned a reputation as an engaging motivational speaker and raconteur. MAC MILLAR: If you don’t come to see this young fella you won’t believe that we have engaged an eleven year old to be a keynote speaker at a District Conference. Mac is passionate about soccer – that’s all he wants to do. But he has a much bigger passion, and that is to supply soccer balls so that as many kids as possible can play soccer. Mac believes that he can help create peace through soccer balls. He has even written a book about it as a 10 year old. Mac is an incredible and delightful young man and an inspiration to everyone who has the good fortune to meet and speak with him. Check him out - google - macmillar.com. Mac has organised distribution of over 2000 soccer balls to places such as Afghanistan, Immigration Detention Centres, Solomon Islands, Nauru, Uganda, Nepal, Zimbabwe, Fiji and others. He has addressed 31 schools in India with over 10,000 students about his project. He was invited to China and addressed the Rotary Club of Shanghai. He has worked with a number of Rotary Clubs in Australia. Last December, Mac went to Canberra and played a game of soccer with Federal MP’s who will arrange to take soccer balls to Gaza for him. Mac has appeared on the Today Show with Lisa and Karl. All this as a ten year old. In the next edition of “Conference Highlights” we will introduce other inspirational speakers, and conference details. However, the inclusion of Shane Webcke and Mac Millar on the program should inspire all District Rotarians to attend the conference in Hervey Bay. And speaking of Hervey Bay, what a beautiful City in which to hold a conference. We encourage Rotarians and partners and their families to plan a bit of extra time in the Bay and enjoy this wonderful part of our country. The conference committee is seriously working on making this conference the most affordable yet. Details should be available on the costs, accommodation options and program details in our next edition of District Conference Highlights. See you in Hervey Bay on 1st to 3rd May, 2015. DG Craig.
