Be sure to include all openings such as Garage Doors, etc.
Note that the sill trim at the bottom of the window and the head trim at the top of the window and/or
door are identical in shape and length.
The sill and head trim is cut to length in the factory and the two ends receive the same concrete finish
as the rest of the part. Therefore we need precise "Width" measurements of all doors and windows.
(Please see DRAWING C for a more detailed explanation of the exact measurement required). The
door and window casings ( the part that runs vertically on both sides ) is cut to length in the field and
therefore the vertical measurement is not as critical as the width.
The number of openings is required in order to calculate the square footage that is to be subtracted
from the wall footage. Of course the number of pieces of trim is also required. As you can see from
our example, it cannot always be assumed that a window requires both a sill and head trim.
DRAWING C - Door and and Window "Width" Measurement
The sill and head trim is cut to length in the factory and the two ends receive the same concrete finish
as the rest of the part. Therefore we do need precise "Width" measurements of all doors and
windows.
Window Width Measurement
The picture below details the measurement that we need for windows. It is the outside dimension of
the window frame on the outside of the window.
Door Width Measurement
The measurement for a door that has a piece of trim on the outside that you wish to remain on the
door (sometimes called a Brick Molding ) is the same as the measurement for a window -- simply
measure the outside dimension of the trim across the door horizontally.
For a door that does not have a piece of trim on it (or one that has the trim that you wish to remove
prior to installing Log Siding) we need the measurement that is the INSIDE of the door jambs + 1/2".
