Greetings to all! I hope that everyone enjoyed their Holiday Break! With
the arrival of 2015, students and staff continue to press forward as we strive to
reach goals and exceed personal expectations. 2014 provides us with the foundation for what’s to come in the new year. Anticipation is high. Attitudes are positive. We look forward to the educational experiences that are to come as we turn
the page to 2015.
We are looking to get a jump start on approximate enrollment numbers for
the 2015-2016 school year. With this in mind, we will have pre-registration for preschool and kindergarten aged students. An exact date is yet to be determined, but
we anticipate that it will take place in March or April. Please look for more information regarding this as we approach spring.
Parent/Teacher Conferences have been scheduled for March 3rd and 4th.
Mark your calendars. We look forward to seeing you there.
As previously mentioned, please continue to make traffic safety a priority
when picking up or dropping off students at school. At St. Mary’s it is especially
important at dismissal as traffic increases and students are boarding the bus or
crossing the street.
Taylor-Richardton Elementary School does have a vacant paraprofessional
position. Please contact the school for more information if you are interested.
I would like to recognize and thank our staff for their commitment to our
students and their profession. We are very fortunate to be part of a district with so
many dedicated individuals united with the common goal of educating children.

NOTIFICATION OF SCHOOL DISTRICT PROFILE
December 8, 2014
Dear Parents and Patrons,
Every year the Richardton-Taylor Public School District, in cooperation with the North Dakota
Department of Public Instruction, publishes an annual progress report on student achievement
called the School District Profile. This profile is now available for your review. I encourage you to
access and study this important information. This report demonstrates the progress our students
are making in terms of our challenging academic standards.
You may access the School District Profile for the Richardton-Taylor School District on the Department of Public Instruction’s website at the following address www.dpi.state.nd.us/dpi/reports/
profile/index.shtm. Simply select the Richardton-Taylor School District and the most recent year
to access the various reports available. If you prefer, the staff at your local school or our central
office will assist you and provide a printed copy to review.
The annual School District Profile summarizes how well our students performed this past year in
reading/language arts and mathematics on the North Dakota State Assessment and on other academic indicators. The annual School District Profile presents the percentage of students who
have achieved proficiency in reading/language arts and mathematics. The Profile also provides
our student attendance rates and graduation rates. The Profile reviews the achievement of all
students and of specific subgroups of students. Additionally, the Profile compares our student
results over two years to those of the State as a whole.
The School District Profile for the Richardton-Taylor School District is an important summary of
how well our students are progressing in their basic academic skills. I encourage all parents and
patrons to familiarize themselves with this information. Providing a quality education for our students is everyone’s concern. In order for us to improve, we must begin with an understanding of
how well our students are performing. We should all take pride in the support we collectively provide our students. Together, I am confident that we will build on our successes to improve and
further raise the quality of education within the Richardton-Taylor School District. I thank you for
your continued commitment to building a strong education system in Richardton and Taylor.

SECONDARY PRINCIPAL’S NOTES… MR. ZIEGLER
I would like to thank everyone for their compliments of
my article last month. Now the
expectation is there and I am
stressing out! Well here it goes.
Speaking of expectations I had a
new student in my office yesterday and she gave the school the
best compliment in my opinion.
She said that Richardton-Taylor
high school teachers have high
expectations. I totally agree that
we have high expectations and
that is a good thing! I told this
student that we do have high
expectations but we also provide support for students to be
successful. Last month I mentioned that the students at Richardton-Taylor are AWESOME,
this month I would like to focus
on our staff!
I have to commend the
staff on their willingness to work
with all the students and make
sure that they are successful.
We have a new homework policy here. The teachers have done
a WONDERFUL job in making
sure the students are getting
their assignments turned in.
In some cases this entails the
teacher chasing students down
and making them come to a
working lunch or being there
before or after school. Thank
you teachers for helping these
students get their work done.
In today’s world it seems
that it has become harder and
harder to get kids to do their
homework at home. A lot of
times if the homework goes
home it does not come back. I
know the excuse
is that kids are
busier now than
they used to be.
I’m not sure if I go
along with that.
Are students really busier now
than they used to
be or is it that priorities have
changed? I remember having
sports practice, chores that had
to be done, and homework.
Those were the priorities that
were placed on me by my parents. What are the students doing now that we didn’t do then?
One thing is video games and
social media. I sometimes feel
that students now have socializ-
ing as a priority above school
and work.
It is just amazing if you
watch the students between
classes or at lunch to see them
pull out their phones and start
texting.
I
do not know how you can text
that much during the day and
what is that important that you
have to let someone know immediately? All I am
saying is wrong or
right I feel priorities
have shifted, not the
amount of time.
In this changing world teachers
have a lot to compete with! Our
teachers in the district do a FANTASTIC job of keeping up with
the students, making that personal connection that is so important and doing what they can
to make every student successful! THANK YOU to all educators
in RT, across the state, and this
great nation that we live in!

JUST A REMINDER: Fill out the FAFSA application as soon as possible so that means get your taxes done as soon
as possible for the best opportunity for your child to receive federal grants and loans.
Steps For Filling in the FAFSA:
1. Apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) with the Department of Education at www.pin.ed.gov (You
will need a PIN to sign your FAFSA application electronically.) You can do this now if you would like, but make
sure you write it down somewhere safe.
2. Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Priority funding date for some programs is
April 15 of each year. Follow these instructions:

File your taxes (electronically) as early as possible and prior to filling out the FAFSA.

If you filed taxes electronically wait at least 2 weeks to fill out the FAFSA, if you filed taxes by paper
wait 6-8 weeks to fill out your FAFSA.

Go to www.fafsa.gov to fill out the FAFSA form.

When filling out the tax information use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.
3. Watch for an email three to five days after completing the FAFSA application saying it has been processed and
how to access your Student Aid Report (SAR) online.

Logan Kuntz, Elle Goetz, and Kaylee Heiser – They really took the lead in
their group and showed one of the best examples of teamwork I have ever
seen!
Jayden Olson – Jayden graciously helped Mr. Bohn with TRE concessions
when there was no one to help out. Thanks, Jayden! I really appreciate
the help!
Beau Fredrick – Holds the door for Mr. Ward after fourth period.
Mikayla Aluise – Helped pick up trash in the music room.
Ava Bartz- Your great manners are so appreciated. Thank you for your
participation in class.
Clayton Miller- Thanks for helping me make my snowflake.
Austin Ehet- Stopped the line by the kitchen so the students that
had dinner plates could get to the lunchroom. Way to go Austin!
Julian Grady:-When someone said something to upset Julian he ignored it and stayed calm.
Olivia Vaagen-Picked up straw wrappers that other students left in
the lunch room.
Sam Bartz-Thank you for leading the line after recess.
Casey Hoff- Thank you for being so patient and helpful with all of
the students. You are awesome and you’re so needed here!
Evelyn Kuntz– I appreciate your help in class. Also, thanks for following our classroom expectations.
Richardton-Taylor PSD Awarded $10,000 Technology Grant
The ND ETC awarded $10,000 in grant funds to eight schools for additional devices to use for the North Dakota State Assessment. Twenty-eight applications were received and reviewed by readers determining the successful applications.

The RTPSD will use the money to purchase Dell tablets for all third grade students. This will free up space in
the computer lab and will also serve as a pilot program for the District’s one to one initiative.

I would first like to congratulate all students that participated in the Knights of Columbus Hoop Shoot. Everyone did an outstanding job during the contest. RichardtonTaylor High School has been chosen as the District site. Doors will open on Sunday January
18, 2015 at 12:30 pm, and competition will begin at 1:00 pm.

Welcome Mrs. Casey Hoff
Hi. My name is Casey Hoff. This is my first
year working as a paraprofessional. My husband,
Broc, and I have three children. Lee is in the 2nd
grade, Aubrey is in Kindergarten and Wyatt is two
years old.
We live south of Richardton and we farm
and ranch. My hometown is Fairfield, ND, and I
attended school there through 8th grade. I went to
high school in Killdeer, ND, and I graduated from
college at Dickinson State University.
I have enjoyed my first few months here at
TRE, and I really enjoy working with the students
and faculty.
Congratulations to RTHS One Acts on
your second place finish at State!!
