Only one student per high school is allowed to participate in the scholarship competition during the ALCFES convention and the student is selected by his/ her French Club director. The ALCFES convention will be February 27-March 1, 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 4728 Constitution Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70808. For more information about ALCFES: www.alcfes.com You must be either a full-time student at a Louisiana university or a full-time teacher of French in the Louisiana school system. University students must have a declared Major in French Education or French Liberal Arts or a declared Minor in French Liberal Arts. Students must have an overall GPA of at least 2.5. Students must have a GPA of at least 2.75 for their French courses. For universities who offer 3 credit hours for the beginners-level French course, students must have completed a minimum of 13 hours of university French. For universities who offer 5 credit hours for the beginners-level French course, students must have completed a minimum of 15 hours of university French. Credit received from Advanced Placement Testing is counted toward credit requirements. Qualifying students and teachers in both private and public institutions may apply for a scholarship. Only full-time teachers of French in Louisiana who are U.S. citizens or who are permanent residents of the U.S. may apply for a scholarship. These scholarships are reserved for Louisiana high school seniors who will be 18 years of age by July 1 2015, who participate in the ALCFES convention (February 27-March 1, 2015) or at the SLU Foreign Language Festival in Hammond (March 20, 2015). This scholarship includes tuition, lodging fees for the university dorm, a daily stipend to cover meals and medical insurance and civil liability. The scholarship recipient is responsible for paying his/her travel expenses. Please speak with your French Club director or French teacher for details on how to compete for this scholarship. 2. (Université Sainte-Anne) Université Sainte-Anne offers one full scholarship and multiple partial scholarships for their summer immersion program (July 5-August 8, 2015) to Louisiana high school students attending the ALCFES convention (February 27March 1, 2015). The recipient of the full scholarship will additionally benefit from the Judge Allen Babineaux Scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship offered by La Fondation Louisiane to be used for travel expenses. One of the recipients of a partial scholarship will be awarded the John Ashby "Ti Jean" Hernandez, III Scholarship in the amount of $500. All other partial scholarship recipients are responsible for paying the remainder of program costs as well as round-trip airfare. All Université Sainte-Anne scholarship recipients are responsible for paying their registration fee and transportation from the Halifax airport to the campus in Church Point. The Ecole Suisse Internationale in Paris, France offers one scholarship to a Louisiana high school senior attending the ALCFES convention (February 27-March 1, 2015) who will be 18 years of age by July 1, 2015. It includes an intensive French program (32 courses in the week + cultural activities + materials used in class + registration fees). The student is responsible for paying his/ her international transportation to Paris and lodging with a host family (half board). A shuttle from the airport to the host family can be also organized (at his/her own expense). The program dates are July 6-31, 2015. The student will meet his/her host family in the afternoon of July 5, 2015 and will depart no later than the morning of August 1, 2015. This scholarship is available to a Louisiana high school student attending the ALCFES convention (February 27-March 1, 2015) who will be at least 16 years of age by July 1, 2015. The recipient of this scholarship will be awarded $1,000 by La Fondation Louisiane to pay for airfare. (Centre Linguistique du Collège de Jonquière) The Centre Linguistique du Collège de Jonquière in Quebec, Canada offers a scholarship to a 16-18 year old Louisiana high school student attending the ALCFES convention (February 27-March 1, 2015). The scholarship will allow the student to attend the CEGEP’s 5-week summer immersion program from July 6-August 7, 2015. The scholarship includes tuition, workshops, socio-cultural activities and lodging with a host family (with 3 meals per day). The recipient of this scholarship is responsible for paying his/her registration fee, round-trip airfare and transportation from the airport to the campus. (MICEFA) Louisiana students participating in the MICEFA program pay their normal home university tuition and administrative fees but study for a maximum of one academic year at a participating Parisian university. For those who wish only to participate in this program for one semester, MICEFA strongly recommends doing so during the Spring. MICEFA also recommends having at least two years of university-level French courses before considering the exchange program. Upon arrival in Paris, MICEFA exchange students will participate in a 3-week orientation. During this time, MICEFA will assist its students in finding lodging. Please note that MICEFA students are responsible for paying their own housing, transportation, books meals and other daily expenses. Those interested in the exchange program should apply directly to MICEFA via the application on their website at micefa.org before June 1st, 2015 for the full 2015-2016 academic year or before November 1st, 2015, for the Spring 2016 session. Institution Duration Number of Scholarships available How to apply Escadrille Louisiane – Université de Rennes, France 1 academic year 10 full scholarships www.tapif.org Escadrille Louisiane is a program for Louisianians with a college degree who aspire to teach French in Louisiana schools. Named after Escadrille Lafayette, a group of 200 Americans who trained as pilots to fly for the French during World War I, the goal of Escadrille Louisiane is to fill Louisiana schools with qualified and certified fluent-French speakers from Louisiana who have their state’s heritage languages and culture at heart. Those wishing to participate in Escadrille Louisiane 2015-2016 must finish with an undergraduate degree by May 2015, and must qualify for Centenary College’s Master of Arts in Teaching Program. To be eligible for this degree program, students must have a 2.5 grade point average (on the 4.0 grade point scale) and be academically eligible to return to their previous institutions. Applicants must also provide passing scores on the PRAXIS I Pre-Professional Skills Tests in Reading, Writing and Math and the PRAXIS II Content Area Test(s) for area of certification (World Languages–French). Escadrille Louisiane participants work as English language assistants in Rennes, France, during the 2015-2016 academic school year while attending Université de Rennes and receiving credit towards their degree and certification from Centenary College. The first step to applying for Escadrille Louisiane is to submit the TAPIF (Teaching Assistant Program in France) application (www.tapif.org) by January 15th, 2015. TAPIF will then send the results for all Louisiana applicants to the Consulat Général de France in New Orleans. Potential Escadrille Louisiane participants will then be contacted to schedule an interview. Prior to the interview, Escadrille Louisiane applicants will send an official college transcript and a letter of motivation as well as any other additional requested information to CODOFIL (735 Jefferson Street, Lafayette, LA 70501). This interview should take place in early March. The Escadrille Louisiane committee will select up to 10 of the best candidates who will agree to dedicate the three years following their participation in the program to teaching French in a Louisiana school. In exchange, the program offers each participant coverage for the PRAXIS exams, round-trip airfare to France, a teaching stipend of approximately $1,000/month and pedagogical training. These reports will be used to promote the scholarships the following year. Some scholarship recipients may also be asked to be interviewed and recorded for promotional videos.
