Retail Operations Delivers the Friendliest Period 12 on Record!
Retail operations set a new record in Period 12, earning the
highest ever Friendly Scores on record for the period. This was
no small feat -- the holidays make this our busiest period of the
year, raising the stakes even higher on meeting or exceeding
customers’ expectations. Friendly scores measure customer
satisfaction on seven dimensions: ability to purchase, cleanliness
of store, freshness, speed of checkout, availability of assistance,
Team Member friendliness, and Cashier Friendliness.
In Period 12, our stores earned a cumulative score of 62.3,
compared to a goal of 65. Ability to purchase, store friendliness,
and speed of checkout all had nice gains this period. The stores’
commitment to driving satisfaction on the weekends paid off
well, because both Saturday and Sunday scores were also higher
than our year-to-date performance.
Customers noticed the difference too. Here are just a few of the
customer comments received from the Friendly surveys in Period 12:
• “My cashier, Danielle, was very helpful and polite...She
wished me 'Happy Holidays', and that made my day. A little
kindness goes very far and for Danielle, it comes naturally.”
• “James, the cashier who checked me out, was highly helpful
when asked a question. He had a pleasant manner. He
asked if I had found what I came to get and if there were
any questions I had for him. The overall experience was very
professional.”
• “Erin helped me at the customer service desk with a return.
I did some shopping and there were quite a few lines at
the registers. She noticed that and asked me and another
customer to step over to another register where she quickly
checked us out. She also helped me with some coupons that
I wasn't sure would be redeemable. She was friendly and
very helpful.”
• “The store was clean, organized and had a large variety
of items available. Most importantly, the employees were
friendly and helpful.
Mark Koopman, Customer Experience Manager and
administrator of the Friendly program, said, “Providing Friendly
service with consistency is the biggest take-away from this
experience. When we

Meijer Teams Up With Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative
Each year, the Annual Holiday Drive in Milwaukee benefits
returning soldiers and the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative
(MHVI). The goal is to collect basic household items, from
cookware to personal hygiene products, to create 250 packaged
home starter kits to support veterans and their families. And,
because we have added the state of Wisconsin to our home turf
for Meijer, we took part in the effort this year.
In 2013, the Holiday Drive took on a new beneficiary: military
veterans. With more and more troops returning home from
overseas service every month, Mayor Barrett and County
Executive Chris Abele formed a partnership to bring awareness
to and address the struggles of veterans who face homelessness
or difficulties with stable housing.
The Holiday Drive went county wide, and with the help of the
community, 500 complete home starter kits were created for
the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative--enough to support
hundreds of veterans and their families in the greater Milwaukee
area.
This year’s donation drive once again benefited returning service
men and women and Milwaukee's homeless veterans.
Volunteers included members of Mueller Communications-partners helping us communicate that Meijer is eager to open
four new stores in the Milwaukee area in 2015.
Period 13, January 9, 2015
Since 2007, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has held the Holiday
Drive for servicemen and women. City of Milwaukee employees,
community partners, businesses and residents have risen to the
challenge and collected thousands of toiletries, snacks, goodies
and more to help bring a little holiday cheer to those serving our
country.

It Was a Season of
Sharing Holiday Joy!
Whether it was Shop with a Hero, Toys for Tots, or
visiting a senior care center, our team spread joy over
the holidays in ways that strengthen our communities.
During our Very Merry Meijer event, one customer
at each of the our 213 stores across the Midwest
was randomly selected on Dec. 13 to receive their
purchases free.
That event brought tears of joy to so many. We are
grateful to our customers for their year-round support
of our company. Like Fred Meijer always said, our
customers don't need us...we need them!
