COMMANDER’S CORNER
...Cdr Howard Bernstein, AP
As my term as Commander of KNSPS comes to a
close, I look back over the past year with great appreciation and pride of the 2014 KNSPS Bridge.
A better Bridge one could not have. Their dedication and hard work has helped make Kent Narrows
a premier squadron that has attracted wonderful
new members while maintaining a high retention
rate of existing members.
The slate for the 2015 Bridge is awesome. I look
forward to working with our new Bridge as past
commander to help Kent Narrows continue to
thrive and provide award winning education courses taught by our suburb instructors, public service
under the guidance of our Commander and XO,
and gratifying social events spearheaded by our
AO and Asst AO.
Thank you all for your friendship as fellow Squadron Members. I look forward to enjoying great and
safe boating with you in
2015.

The November membership meeting at Kentmorr Restaurant was
a huge success! We had a record attendance of 42. Many
thanks to our very own members, Lts Dick and Phyllis Radlinski
who were our speakers. They shared their experiences on the
first leg of their Great Loop trip, leaving the audience wanting
more. Hopefully, they will share the second leg of their trip with
us next year. This was also our bi-annual food drive for “Haven
Ministries”. When Lts Scott and Julie Tompkins took them our
donations (a huge amount of food and more than $600), they
were extremely grateful for our generous donations. Thank you
everyone!
December was the Holiday Party. Great food, great friends and a
good time was had by all! Members exchanged gifts and were
tortured with some sing-a-long music.
Just a reminder that Wednesday, 21 January 2015 is our
KNSPS Annual Meeting at Kent Island Yacht Club (KIYC). It
will be a Buffet dinner, $15.95 per person. Social Hour begins
at 1800. Please contact me, Kathy Burke at [email protected] or 410-279-0818 by16 January so we can
give the club a head count. Cancellations only accepted up until 0900 on 20 January. After that you will be responsible for the
cost of your meal.
Sunday 22 February 2015, 1200 is the Change of Watch
(COW). This year it will be at Prospect Bay Country Club. Please
mark your calendars now! More information to follow as the details become available.
Don’t forget the Ladies Lunch Bunch meetings on the second
Wednesday of each month (except January). We meet at different restaurants each month. If you are interested in attending
these great lunches, please contact Lt Pat Worns for more information or to be added to the email list.
Please contact me if you have any questions about any of our
events. See you soon!

Safety Officer Report
...Lt John Murphy, JN
HAPPY NEW YEAR.....2015 !!
I hope this missive finds that everyone had an
enjoyable Holiday with family and friends. It is
that time of year again......for making New
Year's Resolutions. Instead of the usual, annual, universal, resolution of attempting to reintroduce your eyes to your toes, may I make
a suggestion? If you have a boat, whether in
the water or "on the hard," try to resolve to
visit her regularly to make sure everything is
all-right. All a Lady wants is a little TLC. Especially, if she is in the water. Always wear a
PFD when perambulating the docks and
decks this time of year. Even though you may
not see any vestiges of ice, these surfaces
can be treacherous, and sometimes fatally,
slippery. If possible, try to have someone accompany you. Always inform someone of
where you are going, and approximately how
long you intend to be gone. Better yet, checkin regularly via your cell phone.
WISHING Y'ALL BLESSINGS, HEALTH and
PROSPERITY IN 2015.

I want to wish a Happy New Year to all of our members. I hope you all
had a wonderful holiday season and I am looking forward to a year of
boating and friendship in 2015.
I am delighted to begin the New Year by introducing our newest KNSPS
members.
Marcia Stout-Roche, a lifelong boater, is transferring her membership
from the Naples Sail & Power Squadron to KNSPS. Marcia has been a
member of USPS since 1983 and she now splits her time between Kent
Island and Lake George, NY. She has a son living in Stevensville. Marcia is looking forward to the camaraderie of our group and has already
been to several of our meetings. She also enjoys swimming.
Robert Tacher has been a member of KNSPS since October. Bob
moved to the Eastern Shore 3 years ago – he came to buy a boat and
stayed. After a career in government contracting and IT network management, he began a new career in Real Estate. He lives in Chestertown
and sails whenever he can. He owns a 1980 Bristol 29.9 sailboat named
Rebecca Lee. His hobbies are Martial arts, kayaking/canoeing, hiking
and photography.
J. Michael and Robin Lawson also joined in October and have already
taken advantage of our wonderful seminars and boating classes. They
live in Grasonville and have a 17’ Bayliner which they moor at their
home. Michael is the President of Independent Testing Agency, an electrical testing business.
James McKeever came to our group through Howard Bernstein. James
is development construction consultant who has been boating for 40
years. Although he is between boats, he is
looking forward to improving his boating skills and meeting like-minded
individuals in the boating community. James is an audiophile and likes
classical and jazz music and photography.
Liza Caine, an Account Executive, is a resident of Chester who has been
boating for 3 years. She currently owns a 19’ Hurricane Deck Boat and
is looking forward to taking many of the classes offered by USPS. Liza
joined USPS as a Cyber member and has recently transferred her membership to KNSPS.
Please take a few minutes to introduce yourselves to our new members at
the first opportunity. And to our new members, Welcome Aboard!
Respectfully submitted,
Lt. Marie Murphy, S.
Membership Chair

Ladies Lunch Bunch
Happy New Year from
the Ladies Lunch
Bunch!
We had an amazing
turnout for our annual
Holiday Lunch at Annie's. It's always a
pleasure to lunch with friends, but it becomes really special when surrounded
by lovely Christmas decorations.
Our next lunch will be in February, location yet to be determined. (We skip January to allow a break from Holiday
"festivities.")
The lunches are open to all; you do not
have to be a KNSPS member. So if you've
been thinking about joining us but just
haven't been able to find the time, perhaps 2015 is your opportunity to get
those priorities straight! Add the LLB to
your calendar for 12 noon on the second
Wednesday of each month (excepting
February), and let me know you'd like to
be added to the mailing list. I can be
reached at [email protected] or 410827-9841. We'd love to see you.
