Begin Opera “Nabucco”
~ 10.15 pm

Synopsis:
Giuseppe Verdi‘s third opera Nabucco combines the Hebrew people’s destiny, who suffer
under the Babylonian conquerors and their leader Nabucco (Nebukadnezar), with the story of
one single family. The opera also succeeds in depicting how strong a people’s as well as an
individual’s need for social and religious identity is permeated by archaic forces and political
calculation.
Nabucco’s world premiere took place in 1842 at La Scala in Milano and strengthened Verdi’s
reputation as the leading opera composer of his generation.

Our suggestion today:
Planetarium Stuttgart
To the Milky Way and back: enter the gateway to the universe! The ingenious projector at the
Carl Zeiss Planetarium in Stuttgart reproduces a true-to-life starry firmament, which is then
explained, with lots of information on astronomy and space travel.
It takes you on a journey through space and time and initiates you into the mysteries of
astronomy. Fascinating constellations, far-off planets and a view of the Earth from outer
space will take your breath away! Equally unforgettable are the futuristic laser shows with
their stunning combination of music and visual effects.

Ludwigsburg Castle
Built between 1704 and 1733 during the rule of Duke Eberhard Ludwig, the Residential
Palace is one of the greatest German baroque palaces still around today: it has got 452
rooms spread over 28 buildings. It is called the "Swabian Versailles" and used to be the
residence of the kings of Württemberg. Today, state receptions and cultural events are still
held in the palace theatre and in the assembly room of the Residential Palace. Stroll through
the building phases from the laying of the cornerstone up until today.
