Priority is given to children under four with
developmental difficulties; older children according to
specific criteria and infants; and children 0–18 months
with recently acquired brain injuries.

Healthier Children and Families service
About the service
This free service is offered to all families and provides
them with an opportunity to discuss their infant’s
and child’s growth, development, health and wellness.
The team is made up of qualified child health
professionals, and offers information and support
to families with children up to 18 years.

School Health Program
Services include:
■ Maternity liaison and outreach services
What services are available?
■ School Based Youth Health Nurse Program
Nurses are located in Education Queensland secondary
schools and provide support and education on health
matters for young people and the school community.

Infant feeding and settling
■
Infant weighing-in facilities for parents
■
Drop-in sessions
■
Follow-up telephone information and support
■
Parenting support in a variety of settings
■
Information sessions. Topics may include: newborn
babies, becoming a new parent, and age specific
development information
■
Young parents support
■
Specific parenting programs eg. Postnatal well-being,
support and Positive Parenting Program
■
Social Work/Psychologist support and assistance.
This may include counselling, adjusting to parenting,
loss and grief, postnatal depression and coping
with stress.
