Our August winner
Lauren Charles, Ward 3A
"Lauren was seconded to various areas of Caboolture
Hospital during 2011 and 2012, including two contracts in
Ward 3A.
She had begun to doubt her decision in choosing nursing as
a career.
With the support and encouragement of 3A staff (and a great
deal of effort from Lauren) Lauren became committed to
her progression as a nurse and a member of the 3A team,
responding positively and consistently to feedback.
The change was amazing!!
Lauren has developed into an honest, respectful, competent
and reliable Enrolled Nurse.
She accepted a permanent position on 3A in April and has
continued to contribute to the positive work culture that 3A is
so proud of!"

Our Heartfelt
Award winner!
Presented to
While, the grown ups were taking
care of the official business for
the new children’s services, and
education centre opening a group
of local primary school students
had already stolen the show.
Students from Caboolture East
State School were taking a
whirlwind tour of an ambulance,
the Emergency Department, and
the medical imaging and food
services areas.
The excitable students finally
ended up at the Fairy Garden for
the most important part of the day.
The eating of the cake!!!
But, before then they got dressed
up in their masks, gowns, hair nets
and foot protectors for the media
circus.
A big thank you to everyone
involved in making this tour such
a wonderful experience for the
students – in particular Constance
Gray, Melinda O’Sullivan and Kirsty
Haley.
Thank you to everyone else who
helped out behind the scenes, and
to those staff who supported the
opening of the new facilities.
But, getting back to the grown up
stuff, we were privileged to have
the Senator for Queensland Mark
Furner join us to open the new
Children’s Services, and Education
and Skills Centre.
The two new facilities were part
of the Federal Government’s
vision to improve and enhance
children’s services across South
East Queensland and provide the
Caboolture region with a local
centre for high-quality medical
training.
“More than $19 million was
provided by the Federal

Government for the Education
and Skills Centre ($9.5 million)
and the new Children’s Services
and Outpatient Clinic facility
($9.7 million),” Mr Furner said.
“When the Federal Government
embarked on its vision to build
the new Children’s Hospital in
Queensland by late 2014, it was
necessary to deliver a stronger
network of children’s health
services across the region.
“The new Children’s Services
and new Outpatients Clinic will
make a huge difference to the
Caboolture Hospital’s capacity
to deliver safe, family-friendly
care to children.”
Mr Furner said the new
Education and Skills Centre
would provide greater training
opportunities for local medical
and nursing students, and
multidisciplinary teams.
“The interactive simulation
rooms and enhanced video
conferencing facilities will
significantly enhance the
quality, relevance and
timeliness of clinical training
and mentoring which can be
undertaken at the hospital,” he
said.
“The Caboolture Hospital is in a
wonderful position to continue
its well earned reputation for
delivering quality patient care.”

Caboolture-Kilcoy Hospitals Newsletter
“With significant population growth signalled for the
northern corridor in the next few decades and massive
growth on Caboolture’s doorstep, the hospital has grown
to become one of the best performing hospitals in the
state.
“Over the two years the Hospital has consistently met the
National Elective Surgery Targets (NEST), with all elective
surgery patients seen within clinical recommended
timeframes.
“This is a great achievement, one that all staff should be
proud of and is great win for patients who require most
forms of elective surgery in this region.”
Mrs France also highlighted a number of new innovative
health services now available to the Moreton Bay
community.
“The establishment of a community-based location for
Holding Hands midwives will see the number of births
being supported by a midwifery-led service increase each
year.
“When a person suffers a stroke it is critical that they are
treated immediately and that they have access to highquality specialist services locally.
“Caboolture Hospital treats more than 200 patients each
year who have suffered a stroke. Since the inception of
the new stroke service it has admitted more than 140
patients.”
