Joint Worship Service at MRC On Sunday, February 1, there will be a
joint worship service with MRC and Amistad Cristiana from Sioux Center.
Amistad is a Hispanic ministry of the RCA and CRC. That Sunday there will
NOT be an 8:30 service. There WILL BE Sunday School at 9:40 and Worship
at 10:45. The music will be brought by a joint worship team of the two
churches. Coffee will be on at 9:30, so please do come as it will be a great
time to welcome our guests for the day.
The teaching time will be by Rev. Gianni Gracia, the pastor of Amistad,
and Pastor Don. It will be an interesting teaching time as it will be translated
into Spanish and English as the teaching is happening. There will also be a
dinner after the worship service for a time of fellowship with the people from
both churches. Last summer we had a Fiesta in the Maurice park for MRC
and our Hispanic neighbors. This joint worship service is another step being
taken to encourage and deepen the friendships between our cultures. Please
pray for God to bless this special time of fellowship and worship.

Pastor Don led devotions and opened with prayer.
Pastor Gary reviewed congregational care with us.
Committees for 2015 are forming.
New 2015 consistory members have been paired up and all
consistory members agreed to make congregation member
visits four times throughout the year.
After a month of prayer, the next step in the decision related
to a new bus garage combined with Connection meeting
space--consistory members divided into groups of three. We
discussed in small groups how we felt God has been speaking
to us related to: reaching adults who do not attend church; if a
bus garage/Connection building would be helpful reaching and
discipling adults; and if the south parking lot is the best place.
The responses from the groups were gathered. Consistory
members are asked to come to the February meeting for a
decision about the next step related to a new bus garage.
We again reviewed the method of casting lots for our
consistory member selection. Consistory will be praying about
this and in February make a decision--yes or no--whether to
propose this to the congregation, who would need to vote to
make a change in our church bylaws.
West Sioux Classis is requesting to video MRC's NASCAR
mission team for to be used at a future classis meeting to
encourage other congregations in mission.
Kurt thanked the consistory for their support during his time
of illness.
Consistory and staff were reminded about the 2014/2015
consistory member supper on January 16.
February 28 will be the annual consistory retreat.
All consistory members are asked to sign up for the Strengths
Retreat on January 24.
Committee reports were reviewed and clarifications made.
December financial balances were approved.
Denny Vander Sluis closed with prayer.
From the elders notes: Baptism request of Jeff & Sara
Wielenga for their daughter, Addilyn Kay was approved.

From the book, Relentless Pursuit by Ken Gire,
“I love that God doesn’t ridicule Adam and Eve for their flimsy
attempts to cover themselves. I love that he isn’t sarcastic. I love that
he doesn’t rip off their fig leaves and expose them in a sudden strip
search. Why? Because love doesn’t do things like that. Love doesn’t
expose; it covers.”

pm. Sign up on our Facebook page if you can make it!
**The No Apologies Conference is made specifically for Teens and
Tweens! Making decisions can be tough. Life throws many choices at
us each and every day. Sometimes, it’s hard to know what’s right and
what’s wrong.
No Apologies is an event for Jr. high and high school students to learn
about healthy decision making. Cherish Center wants to help prepare
youth for a successful future by giving them the tools to make healthy
choices in a sex-charged, drug-induced culture. We do this by bringing
in bands and speakers that can reach out to youth and encourage them to
make the right choices. No Apologies is a ministry of the Cherish Center and is planned and implemented by an interdenominational team of
youth leaders and pastors from northwestern Iowa.
