Volunteers met them on the station platforms, gave them food, drinks, reading material and moral support. Trostel helped place historical markers recognizing the humanitarian efforts at these sites. The Czar of Kossuth Colony Kossuth Colony was a walled company town on the outskirts of North Dayton in the early 1900s. Its residents were Hungarian immigrants employed at Barney & Smith Car Company by labor agent Jacob D. Moskowitz. Was Moskowitz a ruthless czar who exploited immigrants, or was he a benevolent father figure? Historian Mike Williams will provide the answers.
