Greetings!
For more than four decades, Delaware
Tech’s Corporate and Community Programs
(CCP) division has met the educational and
training needs of Delaware’s business and
industry, individuals seeking professional or
personal development, and our youth. As
Delaware Tech’s new president, let me take this
opportunity to thank the students, companies,
state agencies and community members who
have enrolled in training, partnered with us,
and supported our efforts to create programs
for those we serve.
I am pleased to share that the College’s
CCP division recently began operating under
a new name -- Workforce Development
and Community Education. “Workforce
development” more accurately represents the
extensive range of innovative and relevant
training programs that we offer to help
Delaware’s business remain competitive and its
residents acquire the skills they need to succeed
in the workplace. With this change also comes
a renewed focus on developing programs that
will prepare the next generation of Delaware’s

workforce – one that is highly-skilled
and responsive to economic development
opportunities throughout the state and the
surrounding counties. Rest assured that our
Community Education offerings will continue
to provide unique experiences for youth as
well as creative and valuable professional and
personal development opportunities for all

Did you know that American Sign Language
(ASL) is the third most frequently used
language in America? This course will focus
on learning “Basic Survival” Conversational
American Sign Language. Learn the manual

deaf culture, cultural norms, and etiquette

Certified Wedding and Event Planning Course
Instructed by Lovegevity’s Wedding Planning Institute (LWPI) this course teaches
the basic fundamentals of planning, orchestrating, and delivering social events.
From weddings and anniversaries to birthdays and baby showers, LWPI’s step-bystep methodology teaches clear and concise formulas for detailing the personal and
professional aspects of any social event. Course includes role playing, vignettes and
discussions to practice actual business objectives or work settings in the day-today of wedding and event planning. Local vendors will be invited as guest speakers
giving students the opportunity for networking. Classroom students fulfill all course

The EMT-Basic Certificate Course represents
the first response of the emergency medical
system. Be prepared to care for patients
at the scene of an accident and transport
patients by ambulance to the hospital
under the direction of more highly trained
medical personnel. Learn basic emergency
skills to assess a patient’s condition and
manage respiratory, cardiac, and trauma
emergencies. This course combines 123
hours of classroom instruction and 56 hours
of practical sessions and hands on learning.
Participants will be required to schedule
ambulance ride-along hours outside of
regular class hours. Additional Saturday
training sessions are required for course
completion. Does not include $70 exam

Cemeteries of Lewes
From the founding of Lewes in 1631, to the
founding of the Lewes Historical Society
in 1961, into modern day, the roles and
lives of women in the “First Town in the
First State” have played a crucial role in the
development of the town’s history. Learn
about the varied trials and tribulations
faced by Lewes Town women in different
eras such as the Revolutionary War in the
18th century to the Menhaden Fishing
Industry in the 20th century. Discover the
matriarchs alongside the lesser known
feminine characters of Lewes like Miss Lil'
and the mystery woman aboard the DeBraak
shipwreck. Meets at Lewes Historical Society
Schoolhouse. Lunch included in tuition.
Lewes Cemeteries are unique. All the
cemeteries, except for a few small family
cemeteries are church-based. Each of the
occupants of the many graves have stories
that can be told of them. Learn the stories of
several people and their part in the history

Oystering and Aquaculture in the
Chesapeake and Delaware Bays
Louise du Pont Crowninshield of
the du Ponts of Delaware
This course begins with a lecture covering
the history of oystering in the Chesapeake
and Delaware Bays. We will discuss
aquaculture as a mechanism for economic
development, improving water quality
and restoring oyster populations. We will
examine the differences between practices
in Delaware and Maryland. On the second
day, enjoy a field trip across the Delaware
Bay on the Cape May/Lewes Ferry where
we’ll visit the Bayshore Center’s museum
and enjoy a catered lunch at the Oyster
Cracker Cafe in Bivalve, New Jersey. Lecture
at DTCC the first day. Field trip departs DTCC

Join us for a lecture exploring the life of
Louise Crowninshield, the sister of Henry
Francis duPont. Raised at Winterthur,
she and her brother became well-known
collectors and scholars of Americana. While
H.F. was forming what would later become
Winterthur Museum, Louise was helping to
lay the groundwork for what would become
America’s historic preservation movement.
Her work is recognized as having been of
key importance to organizations such as
the National Park Service and the Salem
Maritime Complex. After the lecture, we will
tour two du Pont properties. Tuition includes

One of America’s greatest contributions to
world culture, the musical gives us not only
immortal music and song but also mirrors

Our Mission: The Workforce Development and
Community Education Division of the College provides
lifelong learning opportunities for personal and
professional growth for a diverse population through
quality education and training programs. In addition,
the Division supports economic development efforts by
designing and delivering training programs that address
the specific needs of local businesses and industries.

Cancellation of Classes: Classes will be cancelled
if a minimum number of full-paying students have
not registered.
Enrollment Policy: You are enrolled upon receipt of
payment, provided there is space in the class.You will be
contacted if there is a problem.
Refund Policy: For a full refund, you must contact
the Corporate and Community Programs office at least
72 hours before the first session. Withdrawals within the
first week receive a 75% refund. Refunds are not given
for classes that have three or fewer sessions, with the
exception of the above 72-hour refund request. Please note
that there are some courses with different refund policies.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) Awards: The
CEU (Continuing Education Unit) is a nationally accepted
standard for non-credit continuing education courses. A
certificate is awarded upon successful completion and
may be used as a reference for job promotion or hiring.
Designated non-credit professional development courses
are CEU-certified.
Tax Deduction/Credit Policy: An income tax
deduction/credit may be permitted for educational
expenses incurred while maintaining and improving
professional skills. Consult your tax specialist for
more information.
