Stay Connected January 14, 2015 Dear SJS Families, Our annual celebration of Catholic Schools Week is quickly approaching! You should have received through email our schedule of events for the week. National Catholic Schools Week is an annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week. National Catholic Schools Week 2015 takes place January 25 through 31. The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2015 is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” The theme encompasses several concepts that are at the heart of Catholic education. Schools are not only communities themselves; they are also part of larger communities of home, church, city and nation. Faith, knowledge and service are integral components of a Catholic education and the measures by which any Catholic school can and should be judged. I hope you will be able to join us for our Eucharistic Adoration on Monday, our CSW mass on Tuesday, and the presentation by "Viva Mexico" on Friday. You are also invited to come to school on Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday to look at the "International Fair" displays that will be in the main hallway of the school. I also encourage you to sign up to donate blood at our Red Cross Blood Drive which will be held in the St. Joseph Parish Hall from 12:00-5:00. The "International Fair" is an event to reinforce this year's school theme; "Catholicism Around the World". Each grade level has researched the culture and traditions of a country or region of the world and will have displays to show what they have learned. *Preschool – China *First Grade - South America *Third Grade - Central America *Fifth Grade – Ireland *Seventh Grade – Africa *Kindergarten – North America *Second Grade - Burma *Fourth Grade - Caribbean *Sixth Grade – Southeast Asia *Eighth Grade - India I would also like to bring your attention to our service project for Catholic Schools Week. Our focus this year will be the “A Room in the Inn” program which is under the direction of the Homeless & Housing Coalition of South Central Kentucky. We will be putting together "Goodie Bags" for the homeless of Warren County. They will receive the bags as they leave one of the churches participating in the program or when receiving assistance from Hotel, Inc. The items we need for the bags are packages of cheese and/or peanut butter crackers, boxes of cereal or fruit bars, small (purse size) packages of tissue, chap stick, hand warmers, juice boxes and small water bottles. The items can be sent to school beginning next week, January 20 so that we can assemble the bags during Catholic Schools Week. We are very excited about our upcoming celebration of Catholic Schools Week and the activities we have planned!
