CMD102 Ministry Placement Level: 6 Credits: 20 in DipPTh (NZQA) Purpose To enable students to develop familiarity with varieties of Methodist ministry through a placement programme. Mode of delivery and method of delivery Face-to-face tutorials in the placement, face-to-face tutorials with the College tutor and online meetings as required. Tutor: Learning Outcomes On completion of this course students should be able to: • Participate fully in various ministry settings demonstrating knowledge of and use of the skill sets of a Methodist lay leader, student deacon or student presbyter • Be capable of being placed by Trinity Methodist Theological College for the Methodist Church of New Zealand Te Hāhi Weteriana O Aotearoa as a lay supply, student deacon or student presbyter in an agreed ministry setting Assessment Assignments to be uploaded into tcol-mahara, resulting in a e-portfolio of professional practice Outline of Content Methodist Praxis During the course of the year, the following topics need to be discussed and analysed within your assigned ministry placement. • Baptisms • Building maintenance • Conduct of meetings • Election processes within a parish • Financial management of a parish • Fire and emergency safety measures • Funerals • Gifts of money to you • Insurance of buildings and contents • Lay preachers and worship leaders • Pastoral care system • MWF • Parish administration • Weddings • Children’s ministry and Youth work. Verbatims NB: Parish superintendents may not request the student to do extra duties. Each student is expected to make one directed pastoral visit per month while on placement, and discuss that visit with the Superintendent. There is also an opportunity and requirement for the student to write 3 verbatims to discuss with the tutor. Normally these will be chosen from the directed pastoral visits. This will: • assist the student to gain experience in writing case studies and verbatims and to reflect on the processes involved in developing skills for making effective personal contacts • provide an opportunity for self evaluation of practice • provide a more intentional base for the tutor’s work with students on pastoral care Sermons and/or Worship Leadership Each participant has 5 critiqued sermons/services to achieve by 31 October. These are to be placed on a mahara collection. Mahara e-portfolio: Journal of professional practice At the end of each month you are required to submit a report on the activity and work you have done in your placement parish. Journal of reflection At the end of each month you are required to journal 2 or 3 significant learnings. NB: Mahara templates arew provided for all activities, reports, verbatims, etc.
