Character Education Topic: Boldness/Courage
For the month of January, we will be emphasizing the character trait of
Boldness (Courage): The confidence to do or say what is true, right and
just.
Our weekly verse is Acts 4:13: “When they saw the courage of Peter and
John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were
astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”
Prime Time Crime
Next Week at Majestic
Prime Time Crime is an
uproarious spoof which
parodies television primetime crime fighters of the
70’s. Charlie's Devils, Kojacket,
a Kung Soo Priest, and
Tony Borrota (with Bruce
the Buzzard) descend on
Shropshire Manor tripping
over each other as they vie to
solve a humorously intricate
mystery! A deadly plot is
unfolding and the Shropshires
are dropping at an alarming
rate. The mysterious Phantom
haunts the halls inflicting
murderous mayhem. Don’t
miss this side-splitting tale as
our crime fighters search for
the Phantom!
This play is put on by the
Santiam Christian Junior
Players, a group comprised of
7th-9th grade students who are directed and mentored by SC high
school students.
The performances will run at 7 p.m. on January 29 – 31 at the Majestic
Theatre in downtown Corvallis. Tickets are $6 students,
$8 for adults and are available at the Santiam Christian
School business office or at the door. For the Thursday
performance, tickets are buy one, get one free.
SC Student Performs With All-State Band
Rory Donley-Lovato, 7th grade trumpet player, was
selected for the 2015 Oregon Middle School AllState Band. He recently performed with the band of
outstanding Oregon middle school students in a gala
concert at the Hult Center in Eugene.

Girls on the Run Program for 3rd-5th graders
Girls on the Run is a 10 week,
curriculum based running program
for 3rd-4th-5th grade girls. Examples
of the activity based lesson plans
include Self Esteem/Body Image,
Bullying, Conflict Management, and
Caring for Ourselves and Others. We
meet twice a week at Santiam Christian on Tuesdays
and Thursdays 3:15-4:45pm, starting on Thursday,
March 12 and finishing the last week of school. Snack
is provided. The girls train for a 5K Race on Saturday,
May 30. There will not be practice during Spring
Break or on Holy Thursday, April 2. Last year, we had
32 girls on our team and 5 coaches. Each of those
amazing girls crossed the finish line on race day!

There are (2) 16 member teams allotted for SC on the
registration page. It does not matter which team your
daughter is on as we will be practicing as one large

Court of Hearts Week
Court of Hearts is coming! Be ready to
enter into the "Happiest Place on
Earth" for the week of February 9-13.
We will have Disney-themed dress up
days, a high school hall decorating
contest, and will conclude the week with a great
night of basketball as our teams take on Amity at
home. We'd love to fill the gym with fans of all ages.
Mark your calendars and plan to wear red for our redout night.
The class of 2018 is bringing back the HS Spirit Stick
(designed and glittered by our own Mrs. Sisler)! The
week will be filled with contests and opportunities
to earn class points. At the end of the week, the
class with the highest points will be awarded the
Spirit Stick. We encourage you to begin thinking of
costume ideas and ways you can show your class/
school spirit. We will also have red spirit shirts
available for purchase. Be watching for more details.
HS Drama Class - Enroll Now for 2nd Semester
Has your HS student ever wanted to be in a play but
felt nervous about auditioning? Or perhaps he/she
is a seasoned actor in need of a little more spotlight.
Well, here's his/her chance to shine!
We now have open enrollment in drama class
2nd semester for those who want to be part of
our spring dinner theatre production, Museum: a
ridiculous, "slice-of-life" comedy featuring a variety of
wacky characters that speak in English, French, and
American Sign Language.
All students have to do is sign up for drama class to
be in the play! We will hold auditions IN CLASS once
2nd semester begins (spoiler alert: those who sign up
for the class WILL get cast in the play!). Class is limited
to the first 24 students that sign up. Contact Mrs.
Beam to enroll.

SAT Registration Deadline
February 13 is the deadline for high school students
to register for the March 14 SAT. To register for the
SAT, go to http://sat.collegeboard.org/register.
Ways You Can Support SC
Parent Volunteer Needed for Math Olympics
SC Elementary is seeking a volunteer co-chairperson for the
ACSI Math Olympics event that takes place each April at SC.
Students from grades 3rd-8th grade compete from many
different Christian schools in Oregon. This position will
work alongside the current Math Olympics Chairperson,
Manal Brawn.
Necessary skills include the ability to communicate effectively, organization, and being familiar with Excel (additional training will be provided for this area). This year
Math Olympics will be held on Friday, April 24. If you are

Speech Meet Judges Needed
We are in need of ten judges (preferably with some past
experience with the speech meet) for the ACSI Speech
Meet on Feb. 27 at Sonshine School in Salem. Judges need
to be there at 9 a.m. that day (for a judges meeting) and
should be finished around 12:30 p.m.

Pep Band Members Wanted
Attention all band instrumentalists (students, parents,
teachers, and alumni), we will have a pep band for the
basketball games on Friday, February 6 (times to be
announced). If you are interested, e-mail Annette Miller at
[email protected] and you can get a packet of pep band
music ahead of time.
SC Open House
Please mark your calendars and invite your friends to attend
our Open House on Tuesday, March 3. From 5:30-7:30 p.m.
our preschool, elementary, junior high, and high school
faculty will be available so you can tour the campus, visit
teachers, and view our curriculum. This is a great time to
visit with the teachers your student will have next year and
is particularly helpful for those who are transitioning from
elementary to junior high and from junior high to high
school.
Invite any friends who you think would be a good fit at SC.
The junior high and high school also offer a visitation day
on March 3. Interested students can spend the day at SC
shadowing one of our students to see what school here is
like.
Parent Volunteers Needed
On Tuesday, February 24 the Junior Class will be attending
the Benton County High School Career Convention at
Oregon State University. The purpose of this event is
to provide a career development opportunity for high
school students in Benton County. Would you consider

Coach Needed for Girls on the Run
Our GOTR Team at Santiam Christian is looking for
healthy minded, positive and FUN individuals to lead a
team of a maximum of 32 girls. Parents, teachers, school
administrators, college students, runners, non-runners, and
people who are committed to developing and celebrating
our youth make great coaches! Our coaches deliver the
GOTR curriculum, twice a week for 90 minutes. Tuesdays
and Thursdays 3:15-4:45pm. If you are passionate about
the GOTR mission, committed to working with a group of
girls throughout the 10 week season in the spring, and able
to bring energy and joy to each practice, please join us!
We currently have Head Coaches Niki Kelley and Jennifer
VonDerahe, and assistants Joanna Haugen and Sally
Cheyne. However, as all busy Moms, we’d love to have at
least one more person join our team and help coach.

Accepting Applications for HS Volleyball Coach
Santiam Christian is currently
accepting applications for the position
of Head HS Volleyball Coach. The
volleyball coach is responsible for the
overall volleyball program at SC,
including activities and camps when
volleyball is not in session.
A successful applicant will have prior coaching experience
and an understanding of coaching at a private Christian
school. Interested applicants should submit a resume, a
letter discussing their interest in the position, two letters
of recommendation from people who can speak to their
qualifications to coach, and references who are able to
discuss coaching and personal qualifications.

received until 4 pm on Friday, February 6. Interviews will
be scheduled for the following week.
Scrip = Tuition

through SC’s Scrip program. Scrip orders are due on
MONDAY. Orders placed by 8:30 a.m. on the order day will
be filled and returned to you that week by Thursday. For

Teen Aviation Weekend
BRICKS 4 KIDZ ™
Build machines, buildings, vehicles, and more out of LEGO™ blocks, in this hands on
experience using one-of-a-kind model plans. Instructional content is multi-disciplinary and
designed to introduce as well as increase the student’s general knowledge of S.T.E.M. (science,
technology, engineering, and math) concepts. Students will work in pairs as they learn the
fundamentals of engineering, architecture, problem solving skills, cooperation, and creativity.
There will be no take home projects. All classes and workshops are for ages 6-12.
Pre-registration is required one week prior to the start date.
Winter Fun
Mining and Crafting All Day
Bring the winter fun indoors with interactive Bricks4Kidz
models of some popular winter activities: luge, hockey,
snowmobile, and more. All you need to create memories
are our bricks and your imagination.
Experience the world of Mine Craft with Lego Bricks.
Students will face new challenges each day, building
models and crafting key elements from the popular Mind
Craft game.
Construction Craze
Put on your hard hat and head over to the construction
site! Build motorized Lego models relating to the
construction industry.
Cranium Contraptions
Build and explore crazy contraptions that really work your
brain! Students will use Lego bricks, axles, pulleys, gears,
and motors to create fun and interactive models.
Many children dream of being an astronaut and traveling
to space, so Bricks4Kidz created an entire unit dealing
with the final frontier. Students will learn about space
exploration and build Lego models relating to space.

January Youth Volunteer Opportunities
