Laboratory Technician ( 1 position)

Main Responsibilities / Duties

Collect sputum samples from TB suspected patients or TB patients and conduct microscopic examination as
partof the diagnosis and/or follow-up of TB patients
Adhere to health, hygiene and safety protocols, including the use of appropriate protective clothing and
materials, and safe handling and disposal of specimen and laboratory waste
Ensure proper registration and record-keeping of patients and laboratory results
4, Ensure that the laboratory premises, stock supplies and equipment are well-maintained
Report in a timely manner laboratory results to concerned authorised hospital staff

0. Monitor and collect data and provide timely reportto TB Manager
7. Maintain a "client-friendly" atmosphere that is non-judgemental, sensitive and supportive of all clients/patients
regardless of their background, with special attention to medical confidentiality
8. Establish cooperation with other Maltese staff, Government health staff, and staff of the National TB Program
(NTP) in order to achieve programme objectives
9. Work independently, and in cooperation with other colleagues from Malteser, Government health staff and team
members of the National TB Program (NTP) to achieve programme objectives
10. Adhere to and respect Malteser guidelines and codes
11. Carry out any additional tasks in accordance with the project proposal as requested by the TB Manager.

Essential Qualifications/Skills
1,
Qualified laboratory technician with previous work experience (minimum 2 years) in public health, preferably in
TB clinics;
2. Ability to ensure supportive supervision, data collection and reporting,
3. Good communication skills and ability to facilitate training;
4.
lnterest and motivation to work in remote area;
5, Ability to live and work under demanding work environments with minimum available basic facilities;
6. Language skills: Myanmar, English
Desired qualifications but not essential

Previous experience with a humanitarian organization (lNGOs) in the region;
Local languages spoken in project sites is a strong asset;
Computer literate in MS Office Package.
