NATIONAL COUNCIL ON EDUCATION FOR THE CERAMIC ARTS
NEW YORK SCHOOL OF INT ERIOR DESIGN
“The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts is a dynamic organization that fosters global
education and appreciation for the ceramic arts. NCECA’s programs, exhibitions, publications, opportunities
and resources inspire advancement of the field.”
Founded in 1916, the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) is a private, not-for-profit college
devoted exclusively to interior design education and related disciplines. NYSID’s guiding principle is
that the interior environment is a fundamental element of human welfare and the College is committed
to actively improving the quality of life for all segments of humanity. This ideal is put into practice by a
dedicated faculty of well-known designers, architects, art historians, and authorities in the field who
guide more than 600 full- and part-time students.
NCECA promotes and improves the ceramic arts through education, community-building, research and
creative inspiration. NCECA offers programs, events and publications to support its membership of artists,
students, individual and corporate patrons, gallery owners, museum curators and providers of ceramic
arts-related products and services. As a dynamic, member-driven organization, NCECA is flexible in its program
development, international in its perspective and responsive to the changing needs of its constituency.
NYSID offers certificate, undergraduate, and graduate programs in the field of interior design, design
history and theory, sustainable design, interior lighting design, and healthcare interior design. A wide
range of classes are also offered through the Institute for Continuing and Professional Studies. The
College is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design
(NASAD); is a Candidate for Accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; and
NYSID’s BFA and MFA-1 programs are accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).

Chen Yan Arts

“Golden Years,” is a bowl belonging to a collective series of bowls that expresses the artist’s life as well as
symbolize the human experience. No matter where people are from, who they are or what their status, people will
always experience hardship in-order to survive.
“Golden Years”---this particular piece symbolizes artist’s troubles in life, anger, unfortunate ironies, sorrow, a few
happy tears, and rebirth. This piece is conceived by using unconventional combinations in handmade glazes,
manipulation of chemistry, while utilizing modern technology, and techniques. Prof. Chen Yan’s idea was to merge
his artwork with the deep meaning of oriental art and the romance of western art.
