Keynote Speaker
Kent McIntosh, PhD
Kent McIntosh, PhD, is an associate
professor of special education at the University of Oregon. His current research
focuses on implementation and sustainability of school-based interventions,
reducing discipline disparities, and integrated academic and behavior support. He is lead
­author of over 50 publications and principal or coinvestigator of over $10 million in federal grant funding.
In addition to his active research, he serves as a national
trainer, consultant, and evaluator of PBIS through the
OSEP Center on PBIS and PBIS-SCP Canada. He has
also worked as a school psychologist, teacher trainer,
and teacher in both general and special education.

SWK 101 – Taking a Walk Through a Classroom
Coaching Guide
Stephanie Martinez, Devon Minch, Anna Winneker and
Kathy Christiansen, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL
Participants will learn a process for coaching teachers
to apply PBS principles within their classrooms. Utilizing case scenarios, participants will practice using a
Classroom Coaching Guide. Electronic copies of the
guide will be provided.
SWK 102 – Integrating Mental Health Within a
School-wide System of PBIS
Lucille Eber, IL-Midwest PBIS Network, Westmont, IL
and Kelly Perales, Community Care Behavioral Health,
Hummelstown, PA
This workshop will describe how to expand student/
family interventions using the Interconnected Systems
Framework (ISF), a multi-tiered behavior support system blending education and mental health systems. Key
features, tools, and examples will be shared.
SWK 103 – Tier 2 Strategies for Classroom
­Behavior Management
Laura Riffel, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS
We will focus on specific strategies used in the classroom for Tier 2 interventions. The skills will focus on
three strands of proactive interventions (a) antecedent
manipulations, (b) replacement behavior, and (c) consequence modifications.

SWK 104 – Prevent-Teach-Reinforce Model:
An Evidence-Based Functional Behavior
­Assessment/Intervention Process

Although function-based interventions are effective,
teachers do not always accept and implement interventions. This presentation will describe an FBA/BIP
model that is accepted by teachers and has research supporting its effectiveness in changing student behavior.
SWK 105 – Establishing Multi-tiered Behavior
Frameworks to Achieve a Positive School-wide
Climate for All Students
Rob Horner, University of Oregon, Eugene, OR and

Purpose of this workshop is to describe core features of
multi-tiered behavior frameworks. Implementation and
data-based decision making will be emphasized. Workshop is useful to leadership teams developing capacity
for high fidelity and sustainable implementation.
SWK 106 – Using the Team-Initiated Problem
Solving Model for Academic/Behavioral
­Problem Solving
Dale Cusumano, University of North Carolina at Charlotte,

This workshop will highlight the Team-Initiated Problem Solving (TIPS II) model as an effective, efficient,
and data-driven, decision-making process for academic
and behavior problem solving with modeling and
hands-on practice opportunities embedded throughout
the training.

SWK 107 – Leading and Coaching Effective
MTSS Implementation: Tools and Resources for
Organizational Planning

Implementing MTSS requires effective leadership and
coaching to ensure consensus, infrastructure development/alignment, and maintenance over time. This
workshop shares concepts, tools and resources for
school/district team use in planning the implementation of integrated MTSS components.
SWK 108 – Parenting with Positive Behavior
Support: Resolving Behavioral Challenges
Meme Hieneman, Positive Behavior Support Applications,
Palm Harbor, FL
This workshop is intended for parents and caregivers, as
well as professionals who work with families. It will
guide participants through a practical, collaborative
problem-solving process to identify possible functionbased strategies for children.
SWK 109 – National PBIS Leadership Academy
for Secondary School Administrators

The inaugural session of a professional learning community supporting middle and high school leaders implementing PBIS. Discussion will include critical issues
in leadership, case examples and tools to support best
practices in secondary settings.

SWK 110 – The Road From Functional Behavior
Assessment to Behavior Intervention Planning
Laura Riffel, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS
Participants will study 10 days of real data and be introduced to a free tool they can download and use. This
tool graphs data which will be used used to write a
function based BIP.

BCBA and Graduate Credits
A Certificate of Attendance will be available at the end
of the conference for those wishing to submit contact
hours to your professional development organization.
The Certificate can be picked up at the registration desk
after lunch on Friday, March 13.
BCBA Type 2 Credits
The Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS)
designates this conference for a maximum of 27 continuing education unit hours (3.5 hours for March 11,
16.5 hours for March 12-13 and 7 hours for March 14).
Each attendee should claim only those credit hours that
were actually spent in the educational activity ­(session,
workshop, poster session).
Permission is being sought for Board Certified Behavior Analysts (Type 2 credits) from the Behavior Analyst
Certification Board.
BCBA Credits will be offered for $5 per hour. All
­necessary paperwork will be available at the conference.

Full Conference Registration: The registration fee for
the 12th International Conference on Positive Behavior
Support includes admission to all break-out sessions
(Thursday and Friday), the conference reception/poster
session and conference materials. The registration fee
does not include meals. Your registration form must be
received (not postmarked) on or before the dates specified below to r­ eceive the reduced rate.
APBS Student and APBS Family Registration: APBS
Student Members and APBS Family Members are entitled to the same privileges as full conference registrants. Students are required to present valid identification at the time of registration if purchasing a Student

Skill-building Workshop Registration: Workshops
will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday,
March 11, and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or
8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.
Separate registration for Skill-building Workshops is
required. Attendees may register for Skill-building
Workshops only or can register for workshops in addition to any of the registration types listed above. The
Skill-building Workshop registration includes admission to the workshop, a copy of the workshop notes,
and a copy of the conference program.
Please note: Each workshop requires a separate fee
and ticket. Pre-registration is advised, as there will
be no wait list for sold out workshops. Workshop
notes are not available for purchase. Please be sure
to register for only ONE Wednesday and/or ONE
­Saturday workshop.
