Bulletin 513368012515.pub St. Catherine Church Burlingame, CA Sent by: Marlin 650-344-6884 Notes: St. Catherine of Siena Church 1310 BAYSWATER AVENUE BURLINGAME, CALIF. 94010 Website: www.stcsiena.org Third Sunday in Ordinary Time January 25, 2015 The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel. - Mark 1:15 CHANGE OUR LIVES In today’s first reading, Jonah, sent by God to warn the people, storms through Nineveh, frightening the citizens out of their wits. It works! They repent before Jonah makes his way through a third of the city, and God sees “by their actions” how they have turned from evil. Then we hear Paul telling the Corinthians that “the world in its present form is passing away.” He calls for a change of heart. He stops short of telling them to set aside their everyday lives, but still he urges them—rather mysteriously—to live as though they aren’t doing the things they’re doing. Finally, Jesus stands on the shore and cries, “The kingdom of God is at hand!” The apostles-to-be abandon their nets and follow him. Thus in all the readings we hear an invitation to a radical and immediate change in our lives. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — The Ninevites turn from their evil way in response to Jonah’s message (Jonah 3:1-5, 10). Psalm — Teach me your ways, O Lord (Psalm 25). Second Reading — The world in its present form is passing away (1 Corinthians 7:29-31). The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel. Mark 1:14 Be now my vision; open these eyes, showing me all that I must see. Be now my footsteps, leading the way, taking me where I must go. Onward to the kingdom, you are the way. Arise in me and I shall rise with you. “Christ in Me Arise” by Trevor Thomson Jonah called the people of Nineveh to open their eyes and repent. Jesus called Simon, Andrew, James and John to follow in his footsteps. What are we being called to see? Where are we being called to follow? “Onward to the kingdom” . . . a good mantra for those times when our vision is a little blurry or our footsteps a bit unsteady! You can contact Sr. Anne Marie with any questions or suggestions or to volunteer for our music ministry at 7660364 or [email protected]. ♫ MUSIC THIS WEEK Tue 1/27 3:15-4 PM Junior Choir rehearsal Wed 1/28 7:00 PM Noon Choir rehearsal Thus1/29 3:30-4 PM Children’s Choir rehearsal 7:00 PM 10:30 Choir rehearsal Sun 2/1 9:00 MASS Children’s Choir sings NOON MASS Choir sings DEVOTIONS AT ST.
