Conference Goals & Objectives
Our Presenters
To raise awareness and educate professionals about
the impact of perinatal loss on families and the
community.
To empower providers to address the myriad of
psychological, emotional and physiological effects of
pregnancy loss and promote positive experiences
during subsequent pregnancies.
Susan Varney, Ph.D. is a an advanced candidate at the
Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research and a
graduate of the Anni Bergmann Parent/ Infant training
program, who has a private practice in Buffalo, NY.
At the conclusion of this conference, the participants
will have:
Increased awareness of the Western New York
Perinatal Bereavement Network and other local
perinatal loss resources
Insight into the attachment processes involved in
pregnancy and perinatal loss
Understanding of how a loss can impact
subsequent pregnancies both physiologically and
emotionally
Increased insight into the importance of providing
support to families during subsequent pregnancies
Increased understanding of the caregiver’s role in
perinatal loss and subsequent pregnancy
Improved awareness of the importance of self-care
Participants will receive a certificate of
completion from the Western New York
Perinatal Bereavement Network, Inc.
Gary Vogel, M.A., L.M.H.C. is a nationally recognized
author and speaker on the topic of perinatal loss. He is a
practicing mental health counselor in Central Florida and
the Program Coordinator for Helping Endure Infant
Loss.
Catherine Cook-Cottone, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor
and Director of School Psychology at the University at
Buffalo, as well as a Licensed Psychologist and a Certified
and Registered Yoga Instructor.
