SPRING BOOK SALE
SATURDAY, MARCH 28 thru APRIL 1
at Washington’s Main Library Meeting Room.
F.o.W.L. members may preview Friday evening!
Membership dues / a $5 fee may be paid at the preview.
If you have a Washington District Library card and PIN,
you can download eRead Illinois electronic books to
compatible tablets, computers or other devices.
Get step-by-step instructions on how to download eRead
Illinois ebooks by going to the library’s website at
www.washington.lib.il.us. Click or touch the eRead Illinois
logo on our home page to access the eRead Illinois
catalog & Help information. Borrow up to 5 items
at any time for a maximum checkout period of 21 days.
Donations of used books, DVDs & CDs in good
condition are accepted beginning on March 2nd.

APPOINTMENTS FOR FREE TAX HELP will be
available at the main library for senior citizens and
low-income persons through AARP’s Tax Aide Program
Tuesdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

APPOINTMENTS WILL BE MADE BEGINNING
JANUARY 19 AND MUST BE MADE IN ADVANCE.
PLEASE MAKE A SEPARATE APPOINTMENT FOR
EACH TAX RETURN BEING PREPARED.
For your appointment, please bring:
your Social Security card, a photo ID,
any income statements for the year (W2, 1099, etc.),
last year’s tax return, a Social Security card and date of
birth for each dependent, your bank routing & account
numbers (if you want your refund directly deposited)
and a copy of your property tax bill.
Tax forms are also available at your library, or at
www.irs.gov (federal) and http://tax.illinois.gov

“SUPER BOWLS” SILENT AUCTION
Friends of Washington Library invite all
patrons, groups and businesses
to help make their annual
Super Bowls Auction another tremendous success!
Donations of bowls, baskets, buckets, or
any appropriate container filled with themed items will be
displayed for bids. Proceeds help your library!
“Bowls” may be brought to the library beginning Monday,
January 19. Please have them wrapped in clear
cellophane and affix a tag listing all the included
items and estimated value. Silent bids accepted
through Saturday, February 7.
The Friends hold just three meetings per year.
Attend the next Friends meetings at 6:30 p.m.

The Washington District Library book club’s
January selection is Jane Austen’s
classic, Northanger Abbey.
In February, we’ll then be discussing the
modernized version - also called Northanger Abbey - by
Edgar Award-winning mystery writer Val McDermid.
The new version is part of the Jane Austen Project,
with popular writers (Joanna Trollope, Alexander McCall
Smith, etc.) rewriting each of Austen's books in a
contemporary setting. Contact Erin for more info.
BROWN BAG-IT LUNCHTIME ENTERTAINMENT

newspapers to which we subscribe, and we also
attempt to keep them clipped and categorized
for your browsing convenience!

if you have a few moments to spare

American Red Cross to arrange another
RED CROSS BABYSITTING TRAINING
seminar to be held during spring break
for Ages 11-15
in the Main Library Meeting Room.
Generally, these seminars run for a full day, so
participants bring a lunch and upon completion
are Red Cross certified babysitters!

monthly flyers for more information.
WA NTED: Hobbies or collections to be displayed
for a one month period in the securely locked
display case of the Main Library Children’s Dept.
Children of A LL ages (even those who are grown)
truly enjoy looking at the items on display! Call or
stop by the Main Library to reserve a month!
DISCOVER TUMBLEBOOKS!
“TumbleBooks” are a terrific children’s resource that can
be viewed from the Washington Library web site:
www.washington.lib.il.us. Click the “Children’s Services”
tab. “TumbleBooks” can be found in the drop-down
choices and include hundreds of immediately-accessed
interactive children’s books and educational games that
enhance and reinforce reading skills! Books may be
read with or without accompanying narration, and longer
chapter books can even be bookmarked!

TORNADO STILL WAITING TO BE CLAIMED
Dedicated volunteers have catalogued items recovered
from last year’s tornado that continue to be housed at
Washington’s Main Library. If you or someone you
know is beginning to get re-settled
and has not yet had a chance to look through the
items found, visit the library and/or our web site to
peruse and reclaim your photos or keepsakes.

Professor Feng from the University of Illinois joins us for a
presentation about Chinese Culture. Enjoy learning about
Shen Yun, a traditional Chinese Dance, see a calligraphy
demonstration and taste Chinese tea and snacks!
PEORIA STORIES: TALES FROM THE ILLINOIS
HEARTLAND Thursday, March 19 – 6:30 p.m.
Author and radio reporter Ken Zurski returns to the
Washington Library to share tales from his new book,
Peoria Stories. Zurski will share stories of famous figures
like Abraham Lincoln and Charles Lindbergh and how they
helped to shape the region. Join us!
THE DRUMMER BOY OF SHILOH
Thursday, April 30 – 6:30 p.m.
Joseph Henry Monroe was just 12 years old when he
became the Civil War’s youngest enlistee. He was captured
at the Battle of Shiloh, escaped, and then rejoined his
regiment for 26 more battles. Now the drummer’s story will
be told in original music and popular period songs by
popular local performer Barry Cloyd!
