The Washington District Library book club’s January selection is Jane Austen’s classic, Northanger Abbey. In February, we’ll then be discussing the modernized version - also called Northanger Abbey - by Edgar Award-winning mystery writer Val McDermid. The new version is part of the Jane Austen Project, with popular writers (Joanna Trollope, Alexander McCall Smith, etc.) rewriting each of Austen's books in a contemporary setting. PEORIA STORIES: TALES FROM THE ILLINOIS HEARTLAND Thursday, March 19 – 6:30 p.m. Author and radio reporter Ken Zurski returns to the Washington Library to share tales from his new book, Peoria Stories. Zurski will share stories of famous figures like Abraham Lincoln and Charles Lindbergh and how they helped to shape the region. Join us! THE DRUMMER BOY OF SHILOH Thursday, April 30 – 6:30 p.m. Joseph Henry Monroe was just 12 years old when he became the Civil War’s youngest enlistee. He was captured at the Battle of Shiloh, escaped, and then rejoined his regiment for 26 more battles.
