Best Regards, Marion Gilbert School Coordinator 6 The Matt Davis Foundation is a Richmond-based, non-profit organization created to sustain the Matt Davis Award, which is an annual scholarship award ($3000) presented to a DSF senior male who excels as a student and athlete with express qualities of leadership, citizenship, sportsmanship, character, and integrity. The 2014 recipient was Jack Gerstenmaier, currently playing baseball at UVA. Matt Davis was a well-rounded young man who was an excellent student and played on the varsity basketball and baseball teams at DSF, having graduated in 1987. After leaving Freeman, he went on to continue playing both sports collegiately at RandolphMacon College. Shortly after college, Matt developed a malignant brain tumor and passed away at the age of 26, as a result. His family decided to set up a scholarship in his name and it has been awarded annually to a senior for the last 18 years. There will be a Matt Davis Foundation sponsored basketball game at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland on Saturday, January 10th at 2:00pm against Guilford College. Immediately following the game there will be a reception with food and drink provided. There is no cost to attend the reception other than the cost of admission to go to the basketball game. Additionally, as a fundraiser prior to the event, the Matt Davis Foundation will be raffling off a $500 airline gift card voucher. If anyone is interested in purchasing raffle tickets for the Matt Davis Foundation's $500 airline gift card raffle, please email Ray Moore ([email protected]). Tickets are 2 for $5.00 or 5 for $10.00. The raffle ticket drawing for the airline gift card voucher will take place at this event, along with the raffling off of several other prizes at that time. You do not have to be present to win the airline gift card voucher prize. Hope that you can attend! 7 Parents Programs DSF PTSA Sponsored Programs for parents and students.
