Thank you for your interest in the field trip program at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum.
This brochure includes the information you will need to plan a fun, hands-on educational
visit for your school, child care center or community group, including an opportunity for
children to explore the Museum’s exhibits and activities based on their age, interests and
developmental abilities. The Museum’s exhibits and tour programs are designed to:
• Immerse children in learning through hands-on experiences
• Introduce children to the arts, sciences and humanities
• Enhance cognitive, physical, social and emotional development
• Reinforce newly acquired skills
• Celebrate cultural and ethnic diversity
• Extend classroom learning
• Encourage children to use imagination and creativity
• Foster individual learning styles
The Museum is proud to serve as a resource for early
childhood and elementary education professionals.
Museum exhibits and programs reflect Wisconsin state academic standards and developmental
milestones recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Our
Education Department can help ensure that your group’s visit complements your classroom
curriculum, and can recommend teaching techniques, tools and activities that will enhance your

Join Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl as they
welcome visitors to pretend woodland, urban
and stream settings that inspire children to discover
and care for the natural resources that sustain our
world – our home sweet home! The green-built exhibit,
developed by the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum in
collaboration with the US Forest Service, includes a
variety of educational activities, costumes, puppets
and props that help children explore science and
environmental and conservation messages.

It’s Artastic!
Conduct a “virtual performance” of the Milwaukee Youth
Symphony Orchestra, follow a dance lesson featuring the
Milwaukee Ballet and explore dances from around the
world, create a theater performance complete with costumes, scripts and props, produce a puppet show, create
a masterpiece in the Artist’s Studio and more!

Home Town
Role-play in a pretend business district. Make a deposit at
the WaterStone Bank, change a tire in the Super Service
Center and shop in the Sendik’s Food Market and pay at the
cash register. Working phones and special deliveries from
the Post Office help you communicate with your neighborhood partners.

Let’s Play Railway!™
Climb aboard the Engine, Cattle Wagon and Caboose and
role-play a ride on the rails. Operate the engine from the
cab, sort corn in the silo and groom the animals. Find and
solve puzzles in the train’s wheels and take a spin in the
roly-poly wheel.
WBB-TV
Deliver the news from our kid-size anchor desk. Experiment with technology using a TV
camera and control station, featuring sound effects and digital imaging. Change backdrops, try on costumes and see yourself on TV in the chroma key studio.

Kohl’s Healthy Kids: It’s Your Move!
Kids can jump into a giant, interactive board game and play their
way to a healthy lifestyle! A colorful winding path leads players to
action-packed stations where they explore personal care, nutrition,
safety, and activity/rest. As kids move, crawl, climb and slide their
way through fun health challenges, they discover the winning combinations that will help keep them healthy and safe.

Focused Field Trips
Add a fun educational program to your field trip for only
$2.50 per child!
The Museum’s Focused Field Trips are a great way to expand
on concepts learned in the Museum’s exhibits or in the
classroom. The following programs encourage learning through
the use of materials, props, demonstrations and group
interaction. Focused Field Trips include an orientation to the
Museum, an educational program (30 minutes) and time to
explore the Museum’s hands-on exhibits.

Campfire Stories with Smokey Bear & Woodsy Owl
(K4 – 3rd Grade)
Join Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl as they discover the night sky through the eyes of
children from around the world. Participate in interactive stories around our pretend
campfire and learn about Smokey Bear’s environmental messages!

Why does food taste funny when you have a cold? Find the answer to this question and
many more as you identify and explore the five senses. Learn how your senses keep
you safe and how each sense contributes to your ongoing health and wellness. Related

Spend, save, share! Find the fun in financing, see dollar signs, and discover the basic

Playground Engineers! (1st – 3rd grade)
Become a playground engineer! Children will learn about simple machines and
use imagination, creativity and teamwork to help them design and build a pretend

The Music of Sound (K4 - 2nd grade)
Learn the science behind sound through hands-on experiments and discover what

Broadway Bound (K5-3rd grade)
Use costumes, props and scripts to rehearse and perform theatrical versions of
well-known short stories. Learn a variety of stage terms while developing creativity

Adaptive Arts (Designed for special needs groups, age 2 and older.)
This adaptive clay class enhances fine and gross motor skills in children with developmental, emotional or
physical disabilities. Resource materials and body awareness strategies are provided to reinforce lessons.

Museum’s hands-on exhibits and an educational program
of your choice (2 hour visit).
Minimum of 25 children (or minimum payment of $162.50) is required.
Field Trips: $4 per child
Includes an orientation to the Museum and time to explore the Museum’s handson exhibits (1 ½ hour visit).
Minimum of 10 children (or minimum payment of $40) is required.
* The Museum is pleased to provide reduced admission to groups that qualify for assistance.
The Special Admissions Program was established in memory of Mary Leach Smith.

TRANSPORTATION for your field trip, call 414-390-KIDS, ext. 270. Availability
is limited. This opportunity is made possible by the Richard and Ethel Herzfeld Foundation.
Reservations
1. E-mail [email protected] or call 414-390-5437, ext. 270, to make a
reservation. Please e-mail or call a minimum of two weeks in advance to
make your reservation. Registration forms and fees must be submitted one
week in advance of your visit. When e-mailing or calling, please provide the
following information:
- Number of children in your group
- Date that you would like to visit
- Time preference (Focused Field Trips: 9:30-11:30 a.m. or noon-2 p.m.;
Basic Field Trips: 9:30-11 a.m., noon-1:30 p.m. or 1:30-3 p.m.)
2. After receiving your reservation, a Confirmation Form will be sent to you.
3. Payment may be made with a credit card by phone or by mailing a check or
money order made payable to the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum. Payments
are required one week in advance, and all payments are non-refundable.
4. Groups are considered registered after the Museum has received a
completed Confirmation Form and payment in full.
Unregistered groups arriving at the Museum will be charged based on the number of children in their original
reservation, and will be assessed a $20 late registration fee. The Museum reserves the right to cancel field trips that
have not fully registered in advance.
Chaperone Policy
• There is a requirement of one adult chaperone (18 or older) for every five children (total number
of chaperones includes teachers).
• Required chaperones are admitted free; additional adults are $4 each.
• What if I am missing a chaperone? You will be charged $5 for the first chaperone that you do not
provide, $10 for the second, $15 for the third, etc. Museum admission assistance does not cover this
charge. An insufficient number of chaperones may result in the cancellation of your field trip.
Cancellation Policy
• Groups canceling 14 days or more in advance of their scheduled visit may apply their
payment toward a future scheduled group visit.
• Groups canceling fewer than 14 days in advance of their scheduled visit will be charged a
cancellation fee prior to rescheduling a future visit: Focused Field Trip, $50 cancellation fee;
or Field Trip, $35 cancellation fee.

Brewing Company Pavilion.

Upon Arrival
• Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled tour time. Groups that
arrive late will have abbreviated field trip time due to scheduling considerations; no additional play time will be granted. Please arrive on time so that
you can take advantage of all that the Museum has to offer!
• Please STOP your group in the lobby on the first floor of the Miller Pavilion.
• Have one group representative check in at the Museum’s Information Desk,
located on the second floor, and provide the total number of children and adults
in the group. Please note that refunds are not provided for children who are
registered, but are absent on the day of your visit. If you have additional children
and chaperones on the day of your visit, you may pay for them at this time.
Parking
• BUSES may park on Prospect Avenue or Lincoln Memorial Drive.
• CARS: Visitors that park in the US Bank garage (Michigan St. and Cass St.) may
purchase a discounted parking pass at the Museum’s Information Desk for a flat
rate of $3 (4-hour parking limit). Metered street parking and other area lots
are also available.
Lunches
Groups are welcome to bring their own food and beverages.
Lunches can be enjoyed in Picnic Place located in the Miller
Brewing Company Pavillion atrium on the first-floor level.
This is a shared space for groups and general visitors,
and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Groups are responsible for clean-up.
