INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL PAINTING
W04
This is an exciting drawing and painting class
using an iPad and the painting app “Procreate”.
Digital painting has found its way into the processes of many contemporary painters, including
David Hockney and Amy Sillman. The unique
features of the digital medium permit any type of
expression or style, allow us to manipulate opacity and color and to distort and import images.
Many artists find the medium remarkably liberating, as everything can be altered at a moment’s
notice, no expensive materials are wasted, and
the visual effects are stunning and immediate.
The finished images can be printed as an end in
themselves, or used as a starting point for work in
another medium. Students should bring to class a
fully charged iPad and should know their security
passwords and their iTunes password. We will be
using the software Procreate, which should be
downloaded before coming to class.
