Cheerleading Constitution Strictly followed Cheerleading is a HUGE commitment Please READ the constitution before signing Highlights of the Constitution At "home" or "away" cheerleaders must display proper conduct before • Each cheerleader is expected to maintain good moral behavior • NVHS Cheerleaders are important representatives of our school and are very visible to everyone! • •"Disrespect to any member of the cheerleading staff will result in immediate dismissal from the squad, practice, season or game at the discretion of the cheerleading staff. CONSTITUTION ACADEMIC R ESPONSIBILITIES • Each cheerleader is required to maintain good grades. • Coaches get a print out every week Have to be passing at least five classes Two weeks ineligible= contract for two weeks or removed •Athlete must be in class at least four periods in order to participate in the nightly activities HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADING VS. ALL STAR CHEERLEADING High School * Foam Mat * 7 Panels * 3 minute routine with half being cheer/no music * Use of props * Judging criteria more strict on precision/technique * Represent school at football and basketball games * Athletes are held accountable for grades * Disrespect to coaches, teammates, or competitors is not tolerated * Practice schedule - organized team practice 4-5 X's/week * State Series What to Expect... •Cheerleading is a HUGE time commitment! •Practices • Over the summer: MANDATORY-see attached • • sheet School year: 4 – 5 days a week, 2 hour min Practices will be broken down into specific segments working all areas of scoresheet and will include core conditioning, running, and weight training Extras: • • • Tumbling class - Extra Expense - Mandatory Cardio and weight training Team bonding activities What to Expect Cont'd.... The dates for these clinics are: April 16th, April 30th May 6th, and May 14th Clinic will be held at GOLD building in either the main gym or aux gym from 4 to 6 pm. Not mandatory but HIGHLY encouraged • • The workshops are $10 per day. Checks can be made out to WILDCAT CHEER •What to wear: Navy cheer shorts and a white t-shirt •Appropriate shoes, hair up in pony with bow. Flyers must be able to pull all body positions easily to an intermediate degree with the commitment to stretch throughout season to get to advanced degree RESULTS •Teams will be posted on the NVHS Cheer Website www.neuquacheerleading.com •Friday, May 23rd after 3:30pm •Results will be posted by try-out number •Coaches will not be discussing try-out results until Tuesday, May 27th after 2:45 Private Lessons •This is not mandatory-only suggested if this is something you are looking for •See list of locations and phone numbers •Many locations offer privates for tumbling and stunting •We will be doing team training during the seasons which is highly encouraged. EXTRA COST •If your child is not participating in team training, they are still required to come to practice and will condition with the coaches. Registering for Tryouts: •Registration is open NOW- MAY 16 th. http://nvhs.ipsd.org/Subpage.aspx?id=300 •Click on the cheerleading link •Complete the on-line registration •After you click submit, a confirmation window will pop up, print this page for your records What to Bring to Try-outs •*Physical • *Two envelopes sealed and signed character assessment •*If you have previously cheered for Neuqua, your coach will fill out one assessment for you •*CURRENT grade print out •*Constitution signed After our "cheer" families are picked... •A check for $200 will be collected to cover the NVHS athletic fee •Any physicals that will expire during the season will need to be renewed previous to the date they will expire to ensure the athlete will not miss any events What to wear to Tryouts (checklist) •Plain blue or gold shorts •Plain white t-shirt •Proper cheer/gym shoes •Bow for hair All hair needs to be worn in a ponytail. No jewelry or gum! No extra skin, please ☺ SQUAD PREFERENCE SELECTION You are choosing to join Neuqua Valley Cheer program. Based on try-out scores and needs, the coaching staff will put you where we know you will fit and succeed Questions?
