athletes of the week
Walter Stahl
Boys’ Basketball
Senior / Coach: Willie Graham | Parents: Rick & Anna
Senior forward Walter Stahl has played really well for the Grizzlies in their
last three games against Sprague, West Salem and McNary. He made a
clutch basket against Sprague that was critical in helping the Grizzlies get
the win in that game and he provided the same spark off the bench for the Grizzlies in a win at
West Salem last week. He followed that up with probably his best game of the season with 7
points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists against McNary last Friday. Great Job, Walter!
Hannah Smith
Girls’ Basketball
Junior / Coach: Sean Coste | Parents: Jeffrey & Vikki
Junior, Hannah Smith has had a nice first half of the season for the McMinnville
Grizzlies at the wing position. Hannah’s confidence and basketball skills have
really developed over the season. Last week against West Salem and McNary,
her outside shooting was consistent and her overall play (rebounding, defending, executing
offensively) was very strong. Hannah has worked really hard to develop in the skill areas. She
is a strong player that has excellent potential. Keep up the great work Hannah.
Karl Wolff
Boys’ Swimming
Freshman / Coach: Jason Hafner | Parents: Eric & June
Karl has shown steady improvement all season and last week against West
Salem he swam two personal bests. Karl first swam a lifetime best in the 200
IM and followed that with a best time in 100 Breast. Karl also swam a leg of
two Grizzly relays that finished third place securing some important points. Karl has dropped
time throughout the season and is especially looking good in the breaststroke. Great job and
Go Grizzlies!
Malia Riggs
Girls’ Swimming
Senior / Coach: Jason Hafner | Parents: Matt & Eve
Malia swam a solid meet last week against West Salem helping keep the girls
undefeated for the season. Malia was second in the girls' 100 Fly and third
in the 500 Free and also swam on two second place relays. Malia is the girls'
co-captain and her leadership in and out of the pool has been a vital part of the girls' team
success. Keep up the good work and Go Grizzlies!
