Implant Dentistry: What Every Denturist Needs to Know
Implant Dentistry is here to stay and is quickly becoming a more component of treatment that is
within the realm of Denturists.
This seminar will cover the aspects of Implant Dentistry that will be invaluable for the Denturist
to know, in order to properly consult with patients and offer the services with confidence.
While multiple aspects on Implant Dentistry treatment will be covered, the emphasis will be on
removable applications, which is the area Denturist will mostly be involved with. Emphasis will
be on delivering practical solutions with the patients best interest in mind and this approach will
also maximize the potential for Denturists to successfully incorporate Implant Dentistry into their
practice. The material will be provided in a scientifically valid “evidence based” approach, referring
to the published literature and also to Dr. Arlin’s personal experience where he has documented
over 13,000 implants placed over a 26 year period.
Murray Arlin, D.D.S., dip Perio, F.R.C.D.(C) received his D.D.S. from McGill
University in 1977. After 1 year Residency in General Dentistry at the Jewish
General Hospital in Montreal, he began his Post-Graduate Program in Periodontics
at the University of Toronto, graduating in 1980. Dr. Arlin received his Membership
and Fellowship in the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in 1981 and 1983
respectively.
Mark Nicolucci, D.D.S., dip Perio, F.R.C.D.(C) graduated from the University of
Western Ontario Dental School, then attended a residency program at Temple
University in Philadelphia. In 2010, Dr. Nicolucci graduated from Temple’s
Periodontology program with a certificate in Periodontology and Oral Implantology.
In addition, Dr. Nicolucci received a Masters in Oral Biology, became a diplomat of
the International Congress of Oral Implatology and a Fellow of the Misch International Implant
Institute. Since returning to Canada he has been very active in lecturing and attending seminars
both locally and internationally.

Most Common Intra Oral Lesions in Edentulous Patients
The majority of the complete edentulous patients do not see their dentists after they become
completely edentulous. Therefore, it is important that Denturists know, evaluate and identify any
intra oral lesions either denture related or non denture related that may need further follow up
and treatment.
Dr. Amir Mousavifar, B.Sc., M.Sc., D.M.D., F.R.C.D.(C), graduated from McGill
University with a Doctorate in Dental Medicine. Completed his Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery training including one year of general surgery at McGill University. Dr.
Mousavifar is a fellow in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Royal College of

A Peek at BioHPP – Innovative Materials For Implant-Prosthetics
High-performance polymers have great potential to be used as framework material in dental
prosthetics. They are considerably cheaper than precious alloy substructures while on the other
hand, they are lighter and easier to work with in dental laboratories compared to NPM, titanium
or ceramics. Moreover, demand for metal-free dental prostheses is on the increase with a neverending search for more aesthetic restorations and more and more cases of metal intolerance in
patients.

experience in comprehensive dental restorations to bear on your individual situation. Andy has
assisted chair side with Dentists on numerous occasions for complex restorative cases. Andy
believes it is very important to keep current with all innovations in the industry by studying

Ceramic (Canada’s largest dental lab group) in 1994 to create Classic Dental Labs (Toronto). In
2010, Andy attended the Trillium College for Denturism and received his diploma in Denturism
(DD). Initially starting with a 1000 sq.ft. facility, Classic is now housed in 8,400 sq.ft., complete with
an education facility – and the site of Sommer Denture Centre, specializing in complex denture
rehabilitations.

Simplicity and Sophistication: Redefining Treatment Options for
the Edentulous Patient
Today with the help of unique components and CAD/CAM technology, multiple options are
available for clinicians and labs that allow them to offer high-precision treatments with different
protocols that cater to different aspects of restorative dentistry.
This program will focus on patient-specific abutments and CAD/CAM, implant-supported
suprastructures and the simplicity and reliability they bring to the restorative process for providing
functional and esthetic results. Using the most advanced computer technology, patient-specific
solutions are available for all major implant systems and are designed and manufactured to
the desired clinical requirements. The benefits of providing an anatomically-correct abutment
earlier in the healing cycle will be discussed. In addition, the advantages of a precise, tensionfree fit for removable and fixed prostheses will be presented. A review of the coordination and
communication between the lab, surgeon and restorative colleague to achieve exceptional results
will also be presented.
At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Fadi Touma, RDT, CDT, worked in a prosthodontic specialty office from 1994 to
2001. In 1998, Mr. Touma started his own specialty laboratory focusing on full mouth
reconstruction, implants and cosmetic dentistry. He has extensive implant knowledge
and experience with most implant systems. Mr. Touma holds an American certification
in addition to his Canadian registration. He is currently the DENTSPLY Implants
District Sales Manager for laboratories for the Eastern region of Canada.

The Ins and Outs of the All On Four Techniques as it Relates to
Denturists
The placement of dental implants for single tooth restoration started with edentulous sites and has
evolved to immediate extraction and placement of an implant in a single day. Immediate “loading”
of single implants is a misnomer as single implants cannot truly be loaded without a high risk of
failure. However with full arch replacement there is now true multiple placement and immediate
loading in a single day! This technique is gaining worldwide popularity as it is a true immediate
fixed prosthetic alternative to removable solutions. It is a much more predictable, esthetic and
affordable solution versus the dozen expensive implants and grafts needed for a past traditional
fixed solution to the edentulous arch. This course is designed to introduce the advanced concept
of Immediate One-Day Full Arch Implant Restoration to denturists and go over the full conversion
technique.
Bryan Niblock, DD, graduated from George Brown College and practiced 7 years in
Mississauga and Hamilton Ontario. Subsequently, he owned and operated a dental
laboratory in Calgary Alberta. He has worked for implant companies over the past 10
years specializing in the surgical and restorative aspects of complete immediate

Richard A. Williamson, D.D.S., M.S., F.A.C.P., is a native Texan and graduate of
Texas A&M University. He received his D.D.S. from the University of Texas Health
Science Center Houston. He maintained a solo general practice in College Station
for 17 years before returning to graduate school at the University of Nebraska
Medical Center in Lincoln, Neb. Dr. Williamson holds a Certificate in Prosthodontics
and an M.S. in Oral Biology. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a
Fellow of both the American College of Prosthodontists and International College of Dentists.
Currently, Dr. Williamson is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Family Dentistry
at the University of Iowa. The majority of his teaching time is devoted to senior pre-doctoral
students in both didactic and clinical training. Dr. Williamson provides Fixed, Removable and
Implant Prosthodontic care in a University-based dental practice with an emphasis on Graftless
implant rehabilitation of the edentulous patient. His research interest is the development of
diagnostic taxonomy-methodology for the correlation of diagnoses to outcomes in prosthodontics.

Simplifying Restorations on Dental Implants
This lecture will be focusing on when implant supported prostheses should be used over implant
retained prostheses. Attendees will be shown the vast selection of 3i CAD/CAM fixed and
removable bars as well as the indications for each bar. Participants will also be shown how to
design a bar in house, which in turn will help reduce lab costs, ultimately giving the practitioner
the ability to offer their patient a superior treatment at a more affordable price.
Mark Martins, DD, graduated from George Brown College with a diploma in
Denturism and currently owns two practices, of which one is dedicated solely for
dental implant therapy. Mark served as a Board of Director for the Denturist
Association of Ontario from 2007 to 2010 as well as heading up the association’s
Dental Implant Committee in 2008 and the Fee Guide Chair in 2009. Mr. Martins’

Is there any reason why I would not want to use an Eclipse denture?
Though there are a few slight difference, we designed Eclipse denture base material to stay
within the workflow of conventional denture base materials. We feel the superior fit and comfort,
monomer-free*, and using the final processed baseplate for the occlusal records and try-in,
will overshadow any concerns a dentist may have about using Eclipse denture base materials.
However, if a patient has a very tight vertical distance, the Clinical Professional may choose to use
a conventional material since teeth must have retention grooves ground into them. If a tooth must
be ground down to a point where there is no depth remaining to cut retention grooves or a collar
groove, then Eclipse may not be suitable.

What is the difference between Eclipse and Triad Denture Base Material?
Eclipse materials use a different chemistry. Eclipse is stronger than Triad. With Eclipse, the three
different resins are combined to create the denture.
• Eclipse is wax-like, tried in like a wax try-in, and then cured; Triad is not.
• Eclipse is carvable and can be tried-in; Triad can not.
• Eclipse is shaded like Lucitone 199; Triad is not.
What is the difference between Eclipse and Lucitone 199?
• Eclipse handles like a wax; Lucitone 199 does not.
• Eclipse is monomer-free*; Lucitone 199 is not.
• Eclipse does not require investing or boiling out; Lucitone 199 does.
• With Eclipse, fit at try-in equals fit at delivery. This claim can not be made with Lucitone 199 unless a processed baseplate is used, which is rarely done due to the extra labor required.
• Eclipse has about a 3% volumetric shrinkage while conventional acrylics and Lucitone 199
are about 7%
• Eclipse requires mechanical retention between the resins and the teeth; Lucitone 199 does not (but a high percentage of laboratories use mechanical retention with conventional denture resins).

How to Read Radiography
Denturists are obligated to read and diagnosed dental radiographs. However there is an abundant
amount of information in these radiographs that can and would help you with your treatment and
treatment plans. This lecture will discuss and show the technicians how to use a dental radiograph
to his/her advantage, and therefore be able to have a better understanding of what is and isn’t
present, which will in term help the patient’s treatment plan.
Dr. Allen Aptekar, BSc., DMD, studied at the University of Toronto, earning his
Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine
degree with distinction at the University of Saskatchewan College Of Dentistry. Dr.
Aptekar then completed a one year hospital residency at Sunnybrook Health
Sciences Center and the University of Toronto. He has authored and co-authored
several articles in refereed professional dental journals, and is a lecturer in dental implant
procedures for dentists and denturists. He practices in the greater Toronto area, with a special
interest and focus on dental implantology.

Effective Communication - Part Two:
The objective of this second session on communications is working with different learning patterns
and using this knowledge to better relate to your patients and staff. Leadership and leadership
styles will be reviewed and the pros and cons of each management style will be discussed.
Moods are an often overlooked and misunderstood topic and we’ll see how we can use our and
others’ moods to more effectively communicate with them. Lastly, everyone is an individual and
we’ll see how we can make these differences work for us, not against us. Upon completion of
this session, you should have a much better understanding of how important communicating
effectively with others with purpose can be an aid to your business.

Attachments Overview
This presentation will touch upon Intracoronal and Extracoronal Attachments as well as
Overdentures, Stud type and Bar type Attachments. We will also look at how to identify different
Attachments in the mouth and how to measure both the size of female and male parts. Following
