Grand Knightly News
Greetings Brother Knights,
Brother Knight Mike Stead is
working hard and accepting applicants
wanting to participate in the Knights
of Columbus Free Throw Championship being hosted by our Council.
Area Grade Schools and Junior High
Schools have being notified. The contest is open to boys and girls from ages
9 thru 14. The local competition will
held at Christ the King Grade School
Gym on Saturday, February 7, 2015.
Registration begins at 2:00 pm with the
competition starting at 2:30 pm. Local
participants will not have to travel far
if they advance to the other levels. If
you know any eligible youth(s) whom
may want to participate, please contact
Brother Knight Mike Stead by phone
number 217/415-6207 or by e-mail at
[email protected].
Some of my brother Knights who
Chili Cookoff Photos Inside
are working with youth may have or
will receive an Email/letter regarding
participation in the Supreme Safe Environment Program. This program is
offered to our members, so that members of the Knights of Columbus can be
better informed in making sure that all
people at every age are in a safe environment at all our events. It is important to understand that certain required
officers have to participate in the program, and that it does not replace the
Squires program requirement. Youth
Leaders, required officers and any interested Brother Knights will take the
training online. Supreme requests that
you complete the three training modules within 30 days from receipt of any
notification.
Last months’ Breakfast Buffet
was pretty well attended but the results
were shocking and not in a feel good
way. We were reminded that we have
not kept up with food and supply costs
which have increased significantly in
the past few years. As the result of
further review, we are raising the price
of this generous buffet from $8 to $10
beginning in March. The difference in
price will directly impact what is given
to the chosen charity each month.
This month’s Breakfast Buffet
fundraiser is scheduled for Sunday,
February 8th and the proceeds go to
one Council 364’s favorite causes, the
Special Olympics. Please come out
and give them your support.
The Council with Casey’s Pub
will be hosting fish fries on Fridays
during Lent. They will be both eat-in
and carry-outs available.
While we’re on the subject of
food, have you been in Casey’s Pub in
Casey’s Pub would like to introduce Jimmy Hopper as our new kitchen banquet facility manager. Many of
you know him as the owner of one of
the first deli/sub sandwich shops “Jimmy’s Sub Shop” that operated downtown from 1989-2003. His influence
for food was cultivated by his mother
who was from Paris TX who had a flair
for southern cooking and his dad added his personal touch to the old family
recipes. A resident of Springfield since
1967, he has been known as a culinary
artist working in the food business. He
is featured regularly on WCVS/WFMB.
Jimmy has been onboard since October.
If you haven’t noted, the menu has been
revamped featuring hamburgers, horseshoes, house chili, pizza homemade
soups and specialty salads. In addition
to good food, Jimmy insures your food
is prepared to order and on time!
Jimmy is excited about being at
Casey’s as he sees a lot of potential for
everyone to come in and have a good
time. There will be nightly specials,
more live entertainment, theme nights
and a “special” Saturday night offering. Jimmy looks forward to seeing old
friends and new faces. Come out and
taste the new secret on the westside dining scene.

recent times? The kitchen is under the
management of Jim Hopper. Those of
us who worked downtown at some
years back will remember Jim as the
owner of Jimmy’s Sub Shop. I always
had a good sandwich at his establishment. It’s no different at Casey’s Pub.
Good quality food. Come in and meet
Jimmy. He‘s developing a memorable
menu and ensuring consistently good
tasting meals and timely service. He
wants to have some special dinners
for members and you will be given
updates in future newsletters.
If you are one who feels strongly
that our facility is good for the Catholic community and we provide a place
to help many charities, non-for-profit fundraising, Catholic celebrations,
wedding receptions, post funeral celebrations of life, and other favorable
venues, please listen to what I say
next. If my fellow Brother Knights
in Council 364 do not use this facility in some capacity, they should not
be surprised if we no longer have it
in the near future. The overhead to
keep such a venue keeps increasing.
If each Council member and his family came out and ate in the restaurant
once a month or better, you will make
a significant impact. Remember, this
facility was built for this Council.
Please remember ONE MEMBER, PER COUNCIL; PER MONTH
…Do you know any enthusiastic
Catholic men who would be an asset
to our council? Please recruit them
and make applications to become a
Knight.
The Council will be presenting
checks to our designated recipients
of our annual Tootsie Roll candy day.
We plan to hand out the checks at the
beginning of our scheduled membership meeting on Wednesday, February 4th, 2015. The meeting starts at
7:00pm. My Brother Knights are welcome to attend.
God Bless You!

Winterfreeze Chili Cookoff
The 2015 Winterfreeze Chili Cookoff was held Sunday, January 18,
at the KC Hall on Meadowbrook in Sprinfield. There was a very
large crowd of all ages in attendance enjoying the chili and live
music. All proceeds went to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
KNIGHTLY NEWS - FEBRUARY 1, 2015
Thursday Night Raffles
Jackpots and attendance continue to grow
week there will be one less remaining
number and the jackpot will be higher
based on sales that night. Same thing
for the smaller jackpot. We also do a
50/50, normally the winning number is
drawn at 7:15 PM, you must be present
to win this, too
We plan to cap the jackpots at
$20,000. If that happens, more money
will be applied to the smaller jackpot.
Now you have a second chance to
win $100 on Tuesday. At around 7 PM,
we will draw up to three names (3 tickets) from the large jackpot drum from
the prior Thursday raffle drawing. If
that person is present, they win $100. If the names drawn are not present on
Tuesday, the drawing increases to $150
the next week. The Thursday raffle has 2 boards
and 2 jackpots. The big Jackpot is over
$16,000 and still growing as of January 22. The smaller jackpot is over
$3500. There is an early bird drawing at 6 PM for $100 and 2 free pizza drawings, one at around 6:30 and
the other at 6:45 PM. Tickets are sold
until 6:55 PM. Tickets are two for $1
– you can buy unlimited number of
tickets. The drawings for the jackpots
are shortly after 7 PM. You must be
present to win. If your name is drawn
you get to attempt to pick a number
left from the remaining unchosen
numbers (one of those numbers – no
one knows which) is the jackpot number. If you pick a losing number, you
get a $100 consolation prize and next

RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED
Updated dues information
I would like to say thank
you to those who have paid me,
and especially to those who included the update to their membership information questionnaire. The 2nd notice has gone
out and the third will go out in
February. If you believe you received it in error, please let me
know why you feel that way. If
you are a life member and do
not want to make a contribution, put a 0 in the space marked
“amount enclosed” and return it
to me. Otherwise I do not know
why it was not returned.
If you feel you can not afford to pay me, you need to let
me know that along with why
you can’t afford to pay. Under
certain circumstances I have the
authorization to waive dues. As
said last month, if you no longer
wish to belong to the Knights of
Columbus, I need that in writing also.
