Please join us for a day of cabaret-inspired song,
ranging from the revolutionary beginnings of Le
Chat Noir and Kabarett, to Broadway and beyond.
This year’s performances will showcase final year
undergraduate singers and culminate in a
theatrical extravaganza featuring
the RNCM Cabaret Band.

A tribute to Paris’ first modern cabaret club,
featuring music by Satie, cabaret-inspired
songs by Francis Poulenc, and a tribute to
a heroine of French cabaret, Édith Piaf.

Themes of infatuation and love’s frustrations are
explored in Britten’s every popular Cabaret Songs.
The influence of cabaret on British art song is
further explored in songs by William Walton and
new songs commissioned from RNCM composers.

The Torchbearers is a new film directed by Cheryl
E Grant which blends documentary and musical
forms, shedding light on the vital role that the art
of cabaret has played: introducing new social
concepts and mores to the mainstream, putting
politics in perspective, and serving as a platform
for some of the best and brightest talent.

real-life cabaret experience in the RNCM Café
and bar, featuring popular songs by George
Gershwin, Cole Porter and Noel Coward.

The RNCM is situated 1 mile south of Manchester
city centre, in the heart of the Education Quarter,
on the corner of Oxford Road and Booth Street
West. Oxford Road connects the RNCM by bus to
the city centre, and all of Oxford Road, Piccadilly
and Victoria train stations. Oxford Road Station
is an easy 15 minute walk away.
