Take your business further,
with the world’s #1 lubricants supplier.
Lubricants can have a huge impact on the operation of your business. Choosing the right one can significantly improve
operational efficiency and profitability. Shell, the world’s No. 1 lubricants supplier*, manufactures lubricants and greases
that are designed to help to optimise your equipment’s efficiency. With heavy loads and long roads ahead, you need
a lubricant you can trust. After all, if your trucks don’t run smoothly, neither will your business.
At Shell we use the latest technology to bring you innovative oils and greases that are designed to meet the toughest
challenges. Three key points underpin our world-class product technology:
• Innovation
With significant investments in international Research & Development centres, our world-class scientists work
in the laboratory and in the field to create some of the most advanced lubricant products available.
• Product application
Our field experts provide lubrication advice to deliver millions of dollars in savings across industries.
• Relationships
We collaborate with leading OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), customers and institutions to test
our products in some of the most demanding conditions. This helps us to deliver innovative solutions to our
customers’ current and future challenges.
Our portfolio of world-class products is built on a deep understanding of the operation and lubrication needs
of heavy-duty machines. Our engineers have developed lubricant solutions for the entire driveline – Shell Rimula
heavy-duty diesel engine oils, Shell Spirax gear, axle and transmission oils and Shell Gadus heavy-duty greases.
So even under the toughest operating conditions, you can be sure that our lubricants will perform every step of the way.

Protect your investment with Shell Rimula.
The extensive range of Shell Rimula heavy-duty diesel engine oils meets all technical and operational needs
of transport equipment operators. Shell scientists have even found ways to design specific protection levels
to meet particular engine and operating conditions. Our technology provides protection in three critical areas:
• Acid control
Protects against corrosion from the acids formed as fuel burns.
•
Deposit control
Keeps the engine clean for optimum performance and long life.
•
Wear control
Keeps the moving metal surfaces apart for longer engine life.
This means you can be sure your engine will be protected no matter how hot, cold, steep, dusty or muddy things get.

Introducing our hardest working
engine oil – Shell Rimula R6 LME.
New and Improved Shell Rimula R6 LME, the latest member of the Shell Rimula family of heavy-duty diesel engine oils,
continues our commitment to providing innovative technology solutions. Developed to benefit today’s engines, it also meets
requirements of the engines of the future – Euro 6 vehicle technologies.
After extensive testing, Shell has been selected as First Fill Oil supplier for Daimler’s new generation of engines.
New and Improved Shell Rimula R6 LME is proven to reduce overall cost of fleet ownership through a number of key benefits:
• Lowering fuel usage
Independently proven to improve fuel economy by up to 2%.*
• Helping to control emissions
Low sulphur and phosphorus for catalyst compatibility.
Low ash for less exhaust particulate filter blocking.
• Extending oil-drain intervals and wasting less oil
Approved for extended drain intervals by leading equipment manufacturers.
• Improving engine wear protection and pistol cleanliness
Unique anti-wear booster for enhanced durability.
Case study
Daimler’s Record Run 2011 was a trial that was set up to test the fuel efficiency of its latest trucks, the Actros Euro 5,
the Actros Euro 6 and the Actros. The trucks travelled from Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to Szczecin, Poland and back
no less than seven times.
Using Shell Rimula R6 LME and Shell FuelSave Diesel together the Actros Euro 5 achieved fuel savings of 7.6%.
The Actros Euro 6 achieved fuel savings of 4.5%, compared with the Actros.

Intelligent technology that adapts
to changing engine conditions.
Shell Rimula R6 LME has been developed with unique technology to adapt both chemically and physically
to meet the changing needs of your engines.
Offering more than just reliable lubrication, Shell Rimula R6 LME uses a unique three-fold approach to protection:
• Synthetic base-oil technology.
• Unique additive technology.
• Exclusive anti-wear booster system.
These unique properties work together to deliver outstanding performance, longer drain intervals and fuel
saving benefits without compromising durability. Shell Rimula R6 LME provides even greater protection against
wear and deposits than previous-generation oils (e.g. ACEA E4/MB 228.51 oils), and the low-SAPS formulation
protects the exhaust system catalysts and filters found on the latest vehicles.
Less friction, Better fuel economy.
Shell Rimula R6 LME can make a positive contribution to the fuel consumption of your vehicles and
the costs of your business.
Whether you own a single truck or a whole fleet of trucks or buses, you will be aware that reducing fuel
consumption is a key concern for all fleet operators. But, maybe you’re not aware that lubricants can
be an important factor in improving fuel economy. Lubricants are critical to the effective operation and longevity
of almost all engine parts. Lower viscosity lubricants can also help to lower fuel consumption by reducing the
energy loss caused by friction.
Case study
In trials carried out with a fleet of trucks operating for Wm Morrison Supermarkets, the customer confirmed that
Shell Rimula R6 LME realised up to 2% fuel savings over 100,000km oil-drain intervals compared with a typical 10W-40 oil.
Engine inspection showed that the condition of the components was excellent, with no visible wear or deposits after 100,000km.
Another trial ran by Shell at the independent automotive testing facility ATP (Automotive Testing Papenburg) in Germany,
demonstrated the fuel-economy benefits of its top-tier driveline oils (Shell Rimula R6 LME, Shell Spirax S6 GXME and
Shell Spirax S6 AXME) compared with its baseline products (Shell Rimula R4 L, Shell Spirax S1 G and Shell Spirax S2).
Shell Rimula R6 LME 5W-30 also demonstrated fuel savings compared with a traditional high-ash SAE 10W-40 oil
in a real-life driving cycle (a city bus route in Graz, Austria) in a Euro 5 SCR Mercedes-Benz Citaro bus.

Less exhaust emissions, More efficient operations.
Managing exhaust emissions is important not only to comply with legislative requirements but also to ensure
efficient operations. When lubricants are burned, ash (residue that comes from the additives used to fight acids
and wear) can block an exhaust filter. Blocked diesel particulate filters (DPF) can actually increase
fuel consumption.
Shell Rimula R6 LME low-ash additive system is designed to control filter blocking and maintain
excellent control of wear and deposits.

Longer oil drain intervals, Cleaner pistons.
Many engine manufacturers, including Daimler, assess the optimum drain interval of oil on its performance
using piston cleanliness as a key performance parameter. The new and improved formulation for
Shell Rimula R6 LME delivers outstanding piston cleanliness throughout the oil maintenance interval.
Shell also run a joint trial including engine inspection with Daimler in South Africa. Shell Rimula R6 LME
had achieved a new extended engine life target of 1.5 million km with the longest-ever ODI (Oil Drain Interval).
Case study
Austrian haulage company FRIKUS has changed to Shell Rimula R6 LME in its trucks.
As a result, the company has:
•
•
Doubled its oil-drain interval from 40,000 to 80,000km and thereby reduced
its lubricant consumption and maintenance costs.
Reported a total annual saving of US$189,000.*

*The savings indicated are specific to the calculation date and mentioned site. These calculations may vary
from site to site and from time to time, depending on, for example, the application, the operating conditions,
the current products being used, the condition of the equipment and the maintenance practices.
