St Peter’s Cathedral is a Christ-centred, sacramental, inclusive, thinking, missionoriented, faith community. The Cathedral resides on the lands of the Kaurna people whom
we acknowledge as the original custodians of the Adelaide Region.
Welcome: In these weeks between Epiphany and Lent we
increasingly read about how God is made known to and in
the world. The first two Eucharistic readings, verses from
Isaiah 40 and Psalm 147, invite us to reflect on God’s
goodness and greatness. The next two, from Mark 1 and
1 Corinthians 9, show the goodness of God active in the real
world, a world of sorrow, sin and sadness. Jesus bursts into
this world with his Good News campaign. St Paul is well
aware that his ministry is Gospel-driven, finding courage to do and say what
he does in the freedom experienced in his relationship with Jesus Christ.
As we read and listen, ponder and pray, let us open our lives to the lifechanging power of the Gospel; a power that frees us to serve others in creative
generosity.

Lord Jesus Christ and gather today to worship the Holy Trinity.

Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the
beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is
he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like
grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them
like a tent to live in; who brings princes to naught, and makes the rulers of the
earth as nothing. Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their
stem taken root in the earth, when he blows upon them, and they wither, and
the tempest carries them off like stubble. To whom then will you compare me,

If I proclaim the gospel, this gives me no ground for boasting, for an obligation
is laid on me, and woe betide me if I do not proclaim the gospel! For if I do this
of my own will, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with
a commission. What then is my reward? Just this: that in my proclamation I
may make the gospel free of charge, so as not to make full use of my rights in
the gospel. For though I am free with respect to all, I have made myself a slave
to all, so that I might win more of them. To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order
to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though I
myself am not under the law) so that I might win those under the law. To those
outside the law I became as one outside the law (though I am not free from
God’s law but am under Christ’s law) so that I might win those outside the law.

Nicene Creed
Let us together affirm the faith of the Church.
We believe in one God,

Cathedral Kids: Children of all ages, and parents, are welcome to join the
Cathedral Kids’ program during the 10:30am service in the Cynthia Poulton
Hall. Follow the Gospel procession down the aisle to the altar and then go
to the Cynthia Poulton Hall. Children will be supervised by Marlene,
Pamela and Deborah. Children are, of course, also welcome to remain in
the Cathedral with parents, or to use the children’s area at the back on the
left side of the Cathedral.

Lenten Study: This year we will offer two Lenten Study Groups
- Monday morning at 10.30am with the Rev’d Jenny Wilson and
- Monday evening at 7.00pm with The Rev’d Lynn Arnold.
The study ‘Christ and the Chocolaterie’, written by Hilary Brand, is inspired by
the film ‘Chocolat’. Using the film as a starting point the study will explore
issues of God, the world, and what it means to be human.
The Lenten Studies will commence on 23 February and continue for five
weeks, missing 9 March which is the Adelaide Cup long weekend.
Books are available for purchase for $10.00. For further details please

The film ‘Chocolat’ will be shown on Monday 16 February at 10.30am and

Kairos Prison Ministry is a mission in our own back yard:
Please join Albert Patrizi (Ex-offender and now prison chaplain), Peter Mitchell
and Coraine Sopru with others from the Kairos Community on Sunday 15
February after the 10.30 service in the John Dunn Room for a short presentation
about the mission and vision of this ministry and how help can be given.
Kairos is a local community-based Christian ministry that serves both those in
prison and the families and friends of those in prison. This work is
accomplished through four distinct yet interdependent programs, which
include Kairos Inside, Kairos Outside for Women, Kairos Outside for Men and
Kairos Torch (Youth).

Praying for our MPs: All are welcome to attend the Thursday morning service
on 12 February at 8.00am, when special prayers are offered for those elected
to serve in parliament. Dr Deirdre Palmer, Moderator of the Uniting Church,
will preach. Organised by the SA Council of Churches, this service is held in
a different church each year. This year it is our turn.
A new Dean in Perth: Pray for the Very Reverend Richard Pengelly and the
people of St George’s Cathedral, Perth as they embark on the next phase of
their journey together. Dean Frank had the privilege of being part of the
installation service last Wednesday and conveying our prayers and greetings
to Dean Richard.
Ash Wednesday: The imposition of ashes in the context of the Eucharist is
offered at all three services on Ash Wednesday, 18 February – 7.30am,
